Dogs with Jobs:
Working Dogs Around the World
New book highlights amazing man-and-dog partnerships
This remarkable tribute to working dogs opens with a gallery of photos of the 21 dogs profiled in the book. From the Newfoundland Mas, Italy’s premier water rescue dog, to Tammy, a South African Border Collie protecting rare marine animals, Dogs with Jobs visits working canines in the US, Canada, Europe, Guam, Africa, England, and Australia to laud the performances of purebred and mixed breed dogs in both common and obscure jobs. Along with the sheep-herders, search and rescue dogs, and police dogs, the book profiles Snooper, a beagle who sniffs out termites; Buster, an Australian Cattle Dog who herds cattle; Wolf, a performing Borzoi; Kavik, a wolfdog movie and television star; Elmer, an Iditarod sled dog; Flintis, an Anatolian Shepherd who guard sheep and cheetahs; and Yanka and King, German Shepherds who sniff out land mines in Bosnia. The authors introduce their homage to working dogs with a quick look at the senses that make man’s best friend a capable working partner. Understanding the canine characteristics that make one dog a good search and rescue dog and another an ideal flock guardian enhances human knowledge and appreciation of these extraordinary animals.

On canines and chicks Blue Cross' `Happy Pet and Owner' show on Sunday provided an occasion for reunion of animals and animal lovers alike.
A DOG'S life is not as bad as a chicken's. At least not the ones who participated in the Blue Cross `Happy Pet and Owner' show at Chaitanya Public School grounds, on Sunday. Well-fed they were by their owners, with chicken-rice , a few lucky ones even with chicken biryani . Regularly. Lucky dogs!! "The show - an annual event is actually a reunion for animal lovers," says Blue Cross-founder Amala Akkineni. Animal lovers? Indeed. German Spitz Romeo was in his elements. Running after Boxer Sheeba who was just as fascinated by Romeo's rich fur coat, our lover-boy narrowly escaped Alsatian Tiger's sharp canines, twice. Of course Tiger was eyeing the `buxom' Boxy!

Facts Animal Rights Activists Don't Want You to Know
We at Wildlife Damage Control have no problem with developing traps and techniques that reduce animal pain/injury. However, we do have great concerns over Animal Rights Activists (AR) arbitrary claims that footholds are cruel and box traps (mistakenly known as 'Live Traps') are good. We would like to share with the readers a few facts that AR consistently neglects to tell the public. WDC welcomes reasoned and researched comments. We believe in freedom of speech which assumes reasoned and coherent thought as opposed to the modern understanding of the first amendment which has devolved into freedom of expression and even freedom of gesture. We strive for accuracy and completeness. Documentation of sources will be most appreciated. As Christ said, "The truth will set you free. Our AR agenda could cost you more money (including taxes)
In Connecticut anti groups submit bids for the rights to trap on public lands. Once they win the bid, they call the land a trapping free zone. Now I don't mind anti's spending money to stop trapping on public land. For by creating a reservoir of wildlife, the surplus spill out and go into the property of surrounding owners and cause damage there. This helps fill the pockets of wildlife damage controllers. (cf.
