General information with some alternative therapy discussion. Provides link to a support group.
http://www.cancer-info.com/analcanc.htm
Description of Anal Cancer Anal cancer, an uncommon cancer, is a disease in which cancer (malignant) cells are found in the anus. The anus is the opening at the end of the rectum (the end part of the large intestine) through which body waste passes. Cancer in the outer part of the anus is more likely to occur in men; cancer of the inner part of the rectum (anal canal) is more likely to occur in women. If your anus is often red, swollen, and sore, you have a greater chance of getting anal cancer. Tumors found in the area of skin with hair on it just outside the anus are skin tumors, not anal cancer. Like most cancers, anal cancer is best treated when it is found (diagnosed) early. You should see your doctor if you have one or more of the following symptoms: bleeding from the rectum (even a small amount), pain or pressure in the area around the anus, itching or discharge from the anus, or a lump near the anus. If you have signs of cancer, your doctor will usually examine the outside part of the anus and give you a rectal examination. In a rectal examination, your doctor, wearing thin gloves, puts a greased finger into the rectum and gently feels for lumps. Your doctor may also check any material on the glove to see if there is blood in it. If you feel pain when touched in the anal area, your doctor may give you medicine to put you to sleep (general anesthesia) in order to continue the examination. Your doctor may cut out a small piece of tissue and look at it under a microscope to see if there are any cancer cells. This procedure is called a biopsy.

In younger adults, it is more common in single homosexual men than in heterosexual men. This occurs because receptive anal intercourse significantly increases the risk of developing this cancer. Anal cancer is very uncommon. What are the Risks of Developing Anal Cancer? Some of the risks for developing anal cancer are: receptive anal intercourse and Genital warts. What are the Symptoms?

    L I V E R C A N C E R
Cancer of the liver is much more prevalent in many of the developing countries than in the industrialized world. Its incidence is highest in subSaharan Africa, China, southern Asia, and Japan (the exception among industrialized countries).
China alone accounts for about 45% of the world's cases. The liver is subject to two principal types of cancer. One originates in liver cells, and a history of infection with the hepatitis B virus predisposes to this.
The other originates in cells of the bile ducts. A predisposition to develop this form of cancer is caused by infestation with the liver fluke Clonorchis sinensis and related parasites.
The geographic distribution of these parasites is reflected in the prevalence of this disease.
Alcoholism has not been shown to be a major predisposing factor. Other cancers in the developing world are associated with indigenous infectious agents and with cultural practices.
Betel nut chewing, for example, is linked with high rates of oral cancer in central and southeast Asia and Kashmir; Bantu natives, who hold warming pans of charcoal against their bodies, are subject to cancers of the abdominal wall.
The frequent occurrence of esophageal cancer has been related to the consumption of very hot beverages in some cultures. Burkitt's lymphoma, which occurs almost exclusively in central Africa and New Guinea, is probably caused by the Epstein-Barr virus in genetically predisposed individuals. Bladder cancer is a common problem in North Africa, and especially Egypt, because infestation with the parasite Schistosoma haematobium induces

Categories of Cancer Cancer Diagnosis Cancer Facts and the War on Cancer General Definition of Cancer General Definition of Cancer Cancer Terms Cell Biology of Cancer Cancer Risk Factors Unit Review There are many texts and references that attempt to define cancer. The simplest definition is from the American Cancer Society (ACS). According to the ACS, cancer is a group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled growth and spread of abnormal cells. If the spread is not controlled, it can result in death. Characteristics of Cancer Abnormality Cells are the structural units of all living things. Each of us has trillions of cells, as does a growing tree. Cells make it possible for us to carry out all kinds of functions of life: the beating of the heart, breathing, digesting food, thinking, walking, and so on. However, all of these functions can only be carried out by normal healthy cells. Some cells stop functioning or behaving as they should, serving no useful purpose in the body at all, and become cancerous cells.
