The Canadian International Communications Program, a program for improving international communication respecting the Canadian oil, gas and petrochemical industries, was undertaken in mid 2001.
Canadian Technology CD Rom Site Map
The program was developed with support from the federal and provincial governments and the Canadian Association for the WPC. It drew wide participation from a cross section of industry associations and companies which provided data, photographs, and illustrations and was directed especially towards development of an interactive multimedia presentation. Special technical support was provided by Nexen Inc., a Canadian oil, gas and petrochemical company and EnCana Inc., a large Canadian oil and gas producing and pipelines company, both with extensive international operations. The resulting CD Rom was featured at Canadian booths at the 17th World Petroleum Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and will also be shown in an updated format at other conferences and exhibitions including the annual Offshore Technology Conference in Houston, U.S.A. The presentation includes information on the Canadian petroleum industry, its innovations, and the services and products it offers. The presentation will be updated regularly. Back to Top

Connecting people with expertise Canadian small or medium sized enterprises (SMEs) face a variety of difficult problems in their day-to-day operations. Companies are faced not only with technological obstacles (cost of new technologies and the ability to assess competing technologies) but also face numerous marketing and financial obstacles, such as the lack of capacity to develop marketing strategies and to penetrate export markets and insufficient capital available to sustain growth. The Canadian Technology Network (CTN) can give you access to a wide range of technology and related business assistance through a cross-country network of advisors. These advisors are prepared to work with you to identify your needs and help you find solutions to your technology challenges. Each advisor is employed by an organization known for its technology or related business competence. Advisors are linked together to optimize the identification and delivery of the right advice or expertise to meet your needs. The Network
The CTN was established in the summer of 1994 as a joint initiative between IRAP-NRC and Industry Canada. The program has been managed and funded solely by IRAP since the spring of 1998. The Canadian Technology Network links federal and provincial government labs and agencies, universities, community colleges, industry associations, technology centres and economic development agencies. Together these organizations provide innovative Canadian companies with quick and personal access to expertise, advice and information about how to meet technology and related business challenges.

The .CA Brand

When Canadians want to find a Canadian website, they think .CA , just like oCanada .CA . In fact a recent study showed that a majority of Canadians look for .CA websites before they look for .COM. It wasn't always this way. Prior to 1997 there was a rigid, backlogged process in place for registration of .CA domain names that was organized by faithful volunteers at the University of British Columbia. A move to liberalize the registration procedures resulted in formation of the Canadian Internet Registration Authority, which has since helped develop the .CA domain into a key resource for Canadians on the Internet. Now any Canadian individual, organization or corporation may register a .CA domain name by using a CIRA-Certified .CA registrar, such as dotcanuck Web Services

CANADIAN TECHNOLOGY TO REWRITE RULES OF MARINE DATA GATHERING Image Available Technology currently under development by a Canadian high tech firm will rewrite the rules of field data gathering in the ocean science community. For example, an arctic scientist in a laboratory in Winnipeg will be enabled to communicate, via wireless Internet, with his seabed mapping device on a ship sailing Baffin Bay. The technology will increase the operational capacity of ships engaged in marine science activities, while the scientist will be assured of higher quality environmental information over larger areas and at less expense. First deployment of the technology is scheduled for September 2001 when a vessel studying the habitat of turbot in the Labrador Sea will have a seabed mapping device controlled remotely. The scientist will place an order for a data set via the Internet. The mapping system will be activated via a satellite link and report daily on its activities and its location.
