The only Liberal prime minister in the first three decades after Confederation was Alexander Mackenzie . The lack of a strong base in Quebec hampered national Liberal party efforts. However, opposition in Quebec to the execution of French-Canadian rebel Louis Riel, and the success of Wilfrid Laurier in moderating the traditional anticlericalism of the Quebec Liberal party, paved the way to national success. 2nd Homophobic Scandal Hits Canadian Political Party in Week
365Gay.com , November 29, 2003 By Ben Thompson, Newscenter, Ottawa Bureau Ottawa— A legacy of homophobia continues to linger over the Canadian Alliance, Canada’s official opposition party in Parliament, despite the censure of its family affairs critic over comments he made this week to a Vancouver newspaper. And, just as party leader Steven Harper thought he had cleaned up the mess, a new controversy involving anti-gay comments by another Alliance MP erupted Friday. The ruckus began Thursday when Alliance MP Larry Spencer told the Vancouver Sun that homosexuality should be criminalized. Spencer said that gay rights are the result of a conspiracy that began in the 1960s when gay activists embarked on a “well-orchestrated” campaign to “convert” young boys in school playgrounds and locker rooms to homosexuality and to “deliberately infiltrate the North America’s judiciary, schools, religious community and the entertainment industry. Within hours of the publication of the interview, Alliance leader Harper fired Spencer as the party’s critic for family affairs and “temporarily” removed him from the caucus.

CANADIAN POLITICAL PARTY OUTLINES RULES FOR STEM CELL RESEARCH OTTAWA, June 19, 2001 (LSN.ca) - The Christian Heritage Party (CHP), Canada's only pro-life political party - at the federal level, has produced a release on the "Rules for Stem Cell Research". While noting the great potential benefits of stem cell research the paper notes that "some potential sources are ethically unacceptable" specifically referring to "aborted babies and 'surplus' embryos developed for treatment of infertility."
The paper condemns the arguments of researchers who pursue these unethical sources of stem cells saying that the relief of suffering justifies the means by which the tissue or cells might be obtained. "Their arguments sound hauntingly like the suppliers of cadavers for medical research a century or more ago, who robbed graves and even murdered prostitutes and street people to 'meet the medical need,'" says the CHP. The release concludes, "The only acceptable source of stem cells is one that would never, if nature were allowed to take its course, become a mature human being . But any source that is a stage in the development of a fellow human being must be off limits."

A New Message from the President
May 24, 2004 June 28, the Canadian federal election!
Right now, the federal election is on, Voting Day for the Canadian Federal Election is Monday, June 28, 2004
In all federal elections previous, no major established political party had ever adopted a firm call for the repeal of marijuana prohibition. The Federal Marijuana Party of Canada was formed in 2000 with the intent of carrying the issue to the Canadian people in the absence of an established political party to carry forward the issue of marijuana legalization/repeal of marijuana prohibition.
In October, 2003, newly elected leader of Canada's New Democratic Party , Jack Layton, a municipal councilor of 17 years in Toronto, came to my home to ask for the support of Canada's cannabis community in this election now before us. I interviewed and videotaped a series of questions and comments of Mr. Layton's. Here are the key statements transcribed:
