Atlantic Canadian International Trade Workshop
Westin Hotel, Halifax, Nova Scotia
October 2, 2001
Thank you for that very kind introduction. Dr. (Compton) Bourne, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen. It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the Atlantic Canadian International Trade Workshop - an ambitious and far-reaching event that has won the support and participation of so many distinguished visitors representing economically and environmentally progressive financial institutions from around the world. It is difficult to name them all, so I hope you won't mind if I make just one exception. Regardless of the distance we travel to connect with trading partners, we know the best kind of business relationships are built on friendship. We also know that at the heart of all trade development efforts is the need to understand each other's challenges and strengths, especially now at this important juncture in the history of our planet. Globalization has been called the most ambitious collective experience ever undertaken by the human race.
