Canadian Geography
Political Division
The website www.canadainfolink.ca with its title Welcome to teaching and learning about Canada is a very useful website if you are looking for detailed information about Canada. It is updated regularly and was first published in 1996. You can find information about any topic concerning Canada on this page: history, geography, maps, cities, First nation, quiz pages, graphs and charts, politics, wild life, Canada by numbers … There are several links to other web pages, they are even evaluated! However, the author himself writes down most of the information. The website is set up by the former teacher M.D. Bennett from Nova Scotia, Canada. His email address and also a biography link are given on the web page, which makes it a reliable website because you can contact him and ask him questions. The language is good and understandable. The site is well organized. The titles are clearly defined and make it easy to find the wanted information. Light print and a dark background contribute to the good layout because everything is well legible.

(Letter of F. U. Boas to his parents from Victoria, September 18, 1886) «The background of my early thinking was a German home in which the ideals of the Revolution of 1848 were a living force»
(Franz U. Boas, «An Anthropologist Credo», 1938) 2. He told his uncle how much he was influenced by the natural sciences, particularly physics. Yet, he became convinced that his previous materialistic Weltanschauung Boas's shift of his priorities from geography to anthropology coincided with a shift of his ethnographic interests from the Eskimos to the Kwakiutl and other Native tribes of the Northwest Coast of Canada. In 1886 he took a leave from Berlin University to make his second field trip, this time to British Columbia. Boas had begun to work on the Northwest Coast in 1885 as an assistant to Adolph Bastian at the Royal Ethnographic Museum in Berlin where several representatives of the Bella Coola tribe were exhibited (Cole, 1985:104-5). What Boas proposed to Bastian for his trip to North Pacific Coast in early 1886 was to study one of the oldest questions in American ethnology: the ethnic relationship of the Eskimo and the American Indian. 3. By early 1888, Boas's articles on the Northwest Coast Native tribes in

Enter Flash Version Enter HTML Version Looking at artistic voices represented across Canada, it becomes clear that our identity - who and what we are as individuals, communities, regions, and a country - can never be told in just one story. The cultures, histories, and relationships among Canadian communities have always been changing. The art that has come out of this ever-changing reality are all pieces of a broader dialogue, offering glimpses of the possibilities for many different identities. In Telling Stories: Narratives of Nationhood, a diversity of art by Canadian artists is the medium for the exploration of Canadian history and heritage, identity, culture, geography, and politics.
