Recreational Vehicles and Resources
Camping is one of the most popular forms of outdoor recreation and can range from spending a night in a tent pitched in the backyard to "roughing it in the wilderness" with only limited gear to utilizing accommodations that are more modern like campers and mobile homes. Other outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing, and hiking, are many times connected with camping trips. American campgrounds are designated by the National Park Service and other government entities and may require a fee if they are privately owned and reservations if they are heavily patronized. ISMRM Regional Organizing Committee Suggested Recreational Activities
The postponement of the ISMRM meeting to July opens a number of opportunities for things to do outside the City of Toronto. The quintessential Ontario recreation is canoeing. The canoe was developed by the Indians of Eastern Canada and was a means of transport on the many lakes and rivers of the province. These lakes are often disconnected by short segments of land necessitating portaging. The canoe is an ideal craft for this kind of travel and has become a holiday activity for many people around Southern Ontario. Several Provincial Parks are located within two to four hours of Toronto and provide ideal canoeing opportunities ( www.ontarioparks.com ). The best known Ontario park is Algonquin Provincial Park, which attracts canoeists from around the world to its pristine lakes and forests. It tends to be rather busy in the summer and requires advanced booking. The most picturesque park is Killarney Provincial Park about four hours north of Toronto in the direction of Sudbury. This park allows for a combination of canoeing and hiking. One of the newest parks only two hours from Toronto is Massauga Provincial Park which consists of lakes and some segments of the

People use braided rivers for fishing, camping, boating, kayaking, wildlife watching, and so on. The tourism industry in the Upper Waitaki Basin includes activities like fishing tours, home-stays, and eco-tourism. However, braided river birds are very vulnerable to disturbance by humans and their activities. For example, if riverbed birds are disturbed from their nests, eggs and chicks can be cooked by high temperatures or chilled in low temperatures, they can be run over, or be eaten by pet dogs and cats. Recreational users can minimise the risk to nesting birds by driving on marked tracks, learning about bird behaviours, responding appropriately to bird behaviour, keeping pets off riverbeds or dogs on a leash.
