    Cambodia: Introduction
Background: Following a five-year struggle, communist Khmer Rouge forces captured Phnom Penh in 1975 and ordered the evacuation of all cities and towns; over 1 million displaced people died from execution or enforced hardships. A 1978 Vietnamese invasion drove the Khmer Rouge into the countryside and touched off 13 years of fighting. UN-sponsored elections in 1993 helped restore some semblance of normalcy, as did the rapid diminishment of the Khmer Rouge in the mid-1990s. A coalition government, formed after national elections in 1998, brought renewed political stability and the surrender of remaining Khmer Rouge forces.

In the West the country is bordered by Thailand, in the North by Laos and in the East by Vietnam. By far the most important river of Cambodia is the Mekong, which passes through the country for about 500 kilometres in a northsoutherly direction. The Mekong is passable for ships from its delta in Vietnam until Phnom Penh. Southeast Asia's largest lake, Tonle Sap, is in Cambodia and is connected to the Mekong by a short river, also called Tonle Sap. For most of the time this river flows from lake Tonle Sap into the Mekong. However, during the Southeast Asian rainy season from June to October when the Mekong drains large areas of Southeast Asia, the Tonle Sap river flows from the Mekong back into lake Tonle Sap thus causing enormous floods in the area surrounding the lake. During this time, lake Tonle Sap can swell to more than twice its regular size. Central Cambodia is a fertile plain. Mountain ranges in the shape of a semicircle form a natural boundary with Thailand. In the West are the Cardamon Mountains (designated after the spice of the same name), in the Southwest the Elephant Mountains and in the North the Dankret Mountain Range. The highest mountain in Cambodia is Phnom Aural in the Cardamon range, at a height of 1,813 metres.

    Sexual relationships in Cambodia

If you are traveling to Cambodia, you may be interested in sexual relationships with locals, and no, I do not mean the services of prostitutes or other commercial providers. While you can meet Cambodians interested in sex accidentally, the chances of success are not particularly high if you are there only for a limited period of time (as I said: no prostitutes). On the other hand, Cambodians often are sexually attracted to foreign people. For young Cambodian women, especially in the big cities, it is chic to have a Western boyfriend. So, there must be a trick to overcome the time-consuming "accidental", and to link more effectively the sexual interests of foreign visitors with those of locals. Try the Internet. Or, more to the point: try www.AdultfriendsFinder.com

Covering an area of 181,035 square kilometers Cambodia is about half the size of Germany. In the west the country is bordered by Thailand, Laos to the north, and in the east by Vietnam with the waters of the Gulf of Siam off the southern beaches. Cambodia has a distinct geographical personality, it is a wide basin of mainly flat farmland, lakes and rivers, surrounded by mountain highlands bordering Laos and Vietnam to the north and east. By far the most important river in Cambodia is the Mekong, which passes through the country for about 500 kilometers in a north-south direction. The Mekong is navigatable for larger ships from its delta in Vietnam until Phnom Penh and for smaller local craft along all its length except sometimes during the dry season. Mountain ranges in the shape of a semicircle form of a natural boundary with Thailand. In the west are the Cardamon Mountains (designated after the spice of the same name), in the south west the Elephant Mountains and to the north the Dankret Mountain Range. The highest mountain in Cambodia is Phnom Aural in the Cardamon range, at a height of 1,813 meters. These mountain ranges are only sparsely populated and are comparatively densely covered with forest from which a large timber industry has operated.
    History
Cambodia has been a little known country in Indochina for many years though in earlier times the Kingdom with its strong power base, religious strength and trading economy, was a very powerful controlling force dominating South East Asia from Malaysia north through Thailand towards China and covering Laos and Vietnam. Cambodia's history of control over many centuries is part of a fascinating cultural heritage visitors are only now starting to better appreciate. However, over the centuries the controlling influence of the Kingdom became dominated by that of it's Thailand and Vietnam neighbours and the country's obscurity seemed assured.
