find coastlines of Antarctica shown which could not have been known to their makers. Childress' many works chronicle the inexplicable sites around the world. Something was definitely up.
For centuries, people had whispered about "Atlantis" and "Mu." Colin Wilson rehearses many of these themes and their modern counterparts in From Atlantis to the Sphinx Speculation had often arisen over the seeming similarities of many ancient world cultures and artifacts. A unified theory began to emerge which would explain and unify all of these findings and phenomena. The theory speaks of a lost, antediluvian Civilization whose heirs we all are.
Not that this is new. Many mystical and metaphysical groups, notably the Rosicrucian Order AMORC , have taught that we have inherited the knowledge of "Atlantis," no matter how confused or diluted in the popular consciousness . But the wisdom that these groups had preserved for the many centuries is now finally being validated by modern science, it would seem!
Graham Hancock
, a British Journalist, together with a number of colleagues from disparate fields, began to pull the threads of the story together. Today, Hancock, West, Bauval (see bibliography that follows) and others are challenging the Archaeological and Historical establishment with a consistent theory which fits the observed phenomena well. The basic lineaments of the theory (as I understand it), are as follows:

http://www.panoramaproductions.net/tr_cambodia.htm
Welcome to Cambodia The magnificent temple ruins found in the country of Cambodia are considered to be one of the ancient wonders of the world. Dating back to around 1200 AD, the amazing architecture, engineering and craftsmanship represented in these structures speak of a civilization that was powerful, wealthy and highly sophisticated, far advanced from many other cultures of that time period. These advancements however, were totally eradicated during the centuries of war that followed. Like the ruins that were left behind, the amazing culture of the ancient Khmer civilization has been lost, abandoned, destroyed. With the rise of the Khmer Rouge In 1975, a man who had taken the name of Pol Pot led the rabble group of Khmer Rouge soldiers into the capitol city of Phnom Penh. Closing the nation off to the rest of the world, Pol Pot immediately began a brutal campaign of killing. Political figures, civil authorities, religious leaders, doctors, and school teachers were the first to be murdered. Eventually, simply having the ability to read was enough to earn a death sentence. All religious institutions were destroyed, currency was banned, and most modern technologies were abandoned. Families were separated and forced to work long days in the rice fields with very little to eat. It is estimated that during the next three years over one million people were murdered and an additional two million starved to death in the work camps.

Located in what is now Cambodia, Angkor Thom, capital of the flourishing Khmer empire in the 11 th century, once was one of the world’s most densely populated cities. An incredible mass of dazzling pagodas grew up around Angkor Thom, culminating in the glory of the magnificent temple complex at Angkor Wat. With the fall of the Khmers, the temples were slowly recaptured by the lush forest and remained a hidden legend until 1861 when they were re-discovered and introduced to the western world. Join Far Horizons for an exciting 19-day trip to Cambodia and Laos that includes six days exploring the great Khmer city of Angkor Thom, including glorious Banteay Srei and remote Beng Mealea. While in Cambodia, we will visit the nation’s capital of Phnom Penh. Here we will see the National Museum filled with Khmer treasures, the Royal Palace, and the Silver Pagoda, home of a priceless emerald Buddha. And out of the capital, we will travel to the out-of-the-way and splendid complex of Sambor Prei Kuk.

Khmer Civilization Angkor Civilization Theravada Buddhism Buddhism in Cambodia ANGKOR CIVILIZATION Reasons for the rise of Angkor Empire 1) The adoption of Indian doctrines of deva-raja or "god-king" The ancient Khmer kings adopted a successful monarchy system of Indian civilization as the replica. Being revered as the "god-king" or deva-raja, the Khmer kings were able to rule over the empire with divine kingship and absolute power. This enhanced the kings to mobilize large manpower to serve in its military force to defend the nation as well as to invade the neighbors. In addition, the kings could maintain their extensive irrigation system which was the prime factor of its successful economy with their Khmer laborers and foreign slaves. Moreover, the kings surrounded themselves with the wise men or the "learned" Khmer Brahmins as their counselors. The Brahmins were known to have acquire vast knowledge which were inherited from father to sons or taught only within the family. These learned Brahmins help the kings to run an efficient administration of the country, and thus resulted in stronger empire.

Power of Water on Ancient Civilizations Examined
Water supplies and water management were driving forces behind the development of the earliest known civilizations; however University of Cincinnati anthropologist Vernon Scarborough reports that there are key differences between semi-arid and tropical regions. Scarborough presented his findings in a talk titled "The Archaeology of Water Management Systems" during the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in San Francisco. Scarborough has spent the last several years examining water management strategies used by the Maya from Mexico to Belize, then comparing those systems with others around the world including the still-existing water temples of Bali. "What inspired the Bali research was trying to better understand how early archaic states evolved in these tropical settings. When I look at Bali, I see the Maya lowlands about 1,000 years ago before it really began to fall apart. They have a degree of social complexity that may mimic what the ancient Maya were doing." During his presentation, Scarborough described what appears to be a consistent pattern of development among early states in tropical regions which is in sharp contrast to civilizations which grew up along major rivers like the Nile, Tigris-Euphrates, or Indus.

Cambodia to restore Khmer Rouge sites Thomas Crampton/IHT
Wednesday, August 20, 2003 ANGLONG VENG, Cambodia In a case of Disneyland meets the killing fields, Cambodia's Ministry of Tourism is drawing up grandiose plans to upgrade the final stronghold of the Khmer Rouge into a million-dollar theme park.
The ministry's proposal, to be finalized by the end of this year, includes a full refurbishment of the top leader's houses and a museum complex complete with high-tech video displays on the inner workings of the Khmer Rouge.
Tour guides will be selected from among former members of the genocidal regime who are not currently awaiting trial for crimes against humanity. Each will undergo training in English and in how best to deal with foreign tourists.
"Only the Khmer Rouge themselves truly know what Pol Pot and Ta Mok were like to live with," said Thong Khon, Cambodia's secretary of state for tourism. "They can tell the true story of the genocide regime and how things worked inside."

    Khmer's Spectacular Monuments
War's End Reopens a Chain of Royal Temples
By Thomas Crampton International Herald Tribune PREAH VIHEAR, Cambodia - The surrender of Cambodia's Khmer Rouge guerrillas just a few months ago yielded a little publicized peace dividend to pilgrims and tourists: the reopening of a spectacular monument built by the ancient civilization most famed for constructing Angkor Wat. Preah Vihear, an extraordinary kilometer of elaborately carved sandstone temples, runs uphill to a cliff overlooking the northern jungle plains of Cambodia. Within Cambodian territory but accessible only from Thailand, the temple complex is the crowning jewel in a set of monuments that now make northeast Thailand an option for tourists seeking Khmer culture without the worries and dangers of violence-swept modern Cambodia. For much of the last 30 years, war has kept the temples along the Thai-Cambodian border off-limits to ordinary visitors. Since Preah Vihear reopened in August, Thai monks and tourists have flocked to the mountain each weekend by the thousands - along with a handful of foreigners.

Il stretched, then its apogee, up to the Thailand-Burma border in the West and Wat Phou of Laos in the North. It appeared owing to the ancient Khmer rulers who strengthened unity between peoples with a good political doctrine and the development of an intelligent irrigation system who allowed to control water of the Mekong River for agricultures and so to work out its prosperity. Then it were slowly deteriorated during five century. Of this Khmer Civilization, it left some fabulous and exceptionals monuments (like Angkor Wat and Bayon Khmers temples), some numerous sculptures.

Khmer warriors: Carved stories of ancient military clashes One of the main entrances to Angkor Wat The stone construction of palaces and temples covering an area of more than 60 km required thousands of workers and technicians. It is clear that the Khmer state possessed a significant strong army and had a large central administration. The stone carvings manifest the grandeur of such an ancient Asian culture. The impressive stone buildings were the focus of Hindu and Buddhist religious ceremonies. They had a dual function of both temple and tomb. The Angkor Wat ruins are located about 12 km near the town of Siemreab.
