"The only real news you get after something big is in the first couple of days."
In addition to having been inducted into the U.S. flight training program by two Dutch-owned flight schools in Venice, Florida, as many as six of the terrorists, including ringleader Mohammed Atta, also received training at U.S. military facilities, according to a flurry of stories between Sept 15 and 17 in the Washington Post, Newsweek, and Knight Ridder newspapers.
The story had an extremely short life.
Newsweek reported that "U.S. military sources have given the FBI information that suggests five of the alleged hijackers of the planes used in Tuesday's terror attacks received training at secure U.S. military installations in the 1990s."
Knight Ridder’s news account was more specific. It said Mohamed Atta had attended International Officers School at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala. In addition, Abdulaziz Alomari had attended Aerospace Medical School at Brooks Air Force base in Texas, they reported, and Saeed Alghamdi had been to the Defense Language Institute in Monterrey, California.
If true, these reports would have dealt a blow to the consensus portrait then emerging of the terrorist cadre as puritanical Islamic fundamentalists.

Military Schools :

The term "military school" is often used to describe a school where a parent sends a troubled teen for structure. While these schools do provide structure (military style), they usually provide no help in changing behavior disorders and other problems. We at FamilyFirstAid.org do not feel that military schools provide the necessary after-care that is needed to make a permanent change in a troubled teen's life. We promote alternatives to military schools. Featured Military School Alternatives : Academy at Ivy Ridge

Complete lesson plans have been developed strictly according to the California State Content and Performance Standards and include supplementary materials, relevant website links, teacher rubrics and strategies, discussion questions, and examinations. The lessons are cross-disciplinary, use the latest research-based teaching techniques, and may be followed easily by teachers with little or no knowledge of the topic. Written by teachers for teachers, the lessons have been field-tested in real classrooms.

Lesson Plan Military recruiters go to school By Tara Treasurefield "Recruiters are basically bounty hunters," says Shepherd Bliss, a Vietnam veteran and Sonoma County environmental activist. "They don't warn young people about two big consequences of going into the military: chemical exposure and post traumatic stress." Bliss strongly objects to amendments to the pending federal education bill that will guarantee military recruiters access to all high schools in the nation and to all student directory information. According to the U.S. Senate, as many as one in four high schools in the country now withhold student information from the military or bar military recruiters from campus. But that won't be possible when the law changes. Since the education bill has already passed both houses of Congress and is in joint conference committee, the new rules will probably be approved by the end of the year. "Giving military recruiters such access transforms the schools into breeding places for soldiers, rather than places for education about democracy, which is what they should be," Bliss says.

Congresswoman Ellen O. Tauscher TH Washington Walnut Creek Fairfield Antioch www.house.gov/tauscher Rep. Tauscher Recognizes Military Impacted Schools Today, the House passed H.Res.598, legislation which praises the contributions of teachers, administration, and staff at military impacted schools and Department of Defense education activity schools worldwide. Rep. Tauscher co-sponsored the resolution. "Education is, of course, a high priority all across our country. Teachers working to ensure stability in the lives of students whose parents and loved ones may be serving abroad or in danger zones provide an invaluable service in their communities. I am pleased that my colleagues joined me today to recognize this contribution," said Rep. Tauscher. The measure commends teachers in military impacted communities who educate students during times of peace and conflict. Before reaching the House floor, the resolution passed the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. Rep. Tauscher also voiced her concerns about a proposed Air Force housing reduction plan that would affect schools on Travis Air Force Base.

Preppies Take Note: Military Schools Outperform You.
Psychologist says schools’ similarity to parents of first-borns is reason why. Santa Ana, California (PRWEB) September 4, 2003 - Military schools, long associated with strict rules, honor codes and juvenile delinquents, perform better than other schools. Behavioral psychologist Thomas K. Connellan, PhD., says he knows why. He says it’s because military schools mirror the parenting given to first-borns. Conellan’s studies show that while military schools have a greater percentage of black and Hispanic students, and that half of the students live below the poverty line, they still outperform traditional schools. Military school students score sixty percent higher than the national average in reading, second only to Connecticut public schools, and boast a ninety-seven percent graduation rate.
