    • What sorts of things are in the Archives? How can I get a contemporary or historical photograph of UCI to illustrate my brochure? Does the Archives have anything on [your research topic here]? Does the Archives have the letter written in 1972 by the former director of my department? How can I access the collections?

Since many of the records housed here are unique (only one copy exists), our collections do not circulate. Researchers may use the collections in the Special Collections and Archives Reading Room on the fifth floor of the Langson Library. A Winning Proposal

    Popping the question at commencement
Yen-Yang "Mike" Chen should have been kicking back and relaxing on the night before Commencement. After all, at 8:30 a.m. on May 22, following seven years' hard work, he would walk across the Greek Theatre's stage to receive his doctorate in computer science from UC Berkeley's College of Engineering. But he had something else on his mind.
    Concrete Band-Aids for Buildings

Developing a polymer-based admixture for concrete
UC Berkeley civil engineers are developing a new concrete Band-Aid for bridges and buildings. Surprisingly, their key research tool is borrowed from biology. Professor Paulo Monteiro of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and his colleagues are using a state-of-the-art soft x-ray microscope to study the chemistry of concrete more closely than previously possible.
