Ernest Orlando Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory is the official, legal Laboratory name, to be used in written and formal situations, on all major reports, and on first mention in text references. Berkeley Lab, the short form of the official name, is preferred for common usage in writing and familiar situations. This appears on the official Laboratory logo. Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, a shortened form of the official name, is permissible. In situations in which an acronym is required, "LBNL" should be used. The official Laboratory logo is available in a variety of forms and should generally be applied to all publications and visual representations of the Laboratory, in particular to those distributed externally. The logo must be used as designated without alterations. The use of other logos or graphic symbols displayed with the official logo must be approved by the Director of the Information Technologies and Services Division (ITSD). Questions regarding appropriate use of the name and logo in text and design should be directed to the Technical and Electronic Information Department (TEID), which maintains a graphic standards manual with application guidelines.

Welcome to the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education's Web Site
The Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education part of the California Department of Consumer Affairs works to protect students attending privately operated postsecondary educational institutions.
These schools contribute to California's economy, providing educational options for younger students, and increasingly catering to older students looking to advance or change their careers. The Bureau regulates approximately 3,000 schools serving an estimated 400,000 students.
The Bureau establishes educational standards that are intended to serve as the minimum standard for instructional quality and institutional stability for private postsecondary schools in California. The Bureau responds to student complaints and oversees a fund designed to help reimburse a student's tuition if a school closes unexpectedly. The Bureau is also responsible for approving education and training programs for veterans.

    http://www.home-ed-magazine.com/HSRSC/hsrsc_lws.rgs.html
    PLEASE READ
    BEFORE GOING FURTHER
The HEM staff has been considering pulling these listings. The main reason is that as homeschooling becomes more widely accepted, and as states are scrambling to reform their education system, the situation becomes more complex. This makes overviews, listings and rankings less valid. We have, however, decided to keep these listings in place because they carry, at a minimum, a link to your state government. Additionally we hope reading cited code and at least one homeschooler's interpretation will help start to demystify legislation and encourage you to investigate further. When talking to new homeschoolers we often hear concerns about the law. Is homeschooling legal? Who do I have to notify? What do I have to teach? While the legalities are a concern that should not be ignored, neither should our response be automatic and not thought out carefully.
There is no single source, no one true homeschooling authority. We all own the responsibility to think through laws and regulations on homeschooling. Of course you'll find those who disagree - an entire industry has grown up around the fact that there are differences of opinion on homeschooling's legal matters. What we offer here are overviews of laws and regulations compiled by knowledgeable homeschoolers. These files are not legal advice nor the final word on the subject. They are simply a starting point. To maintain our freedom to homeschool we will each need to go far beyond any convenient compilation or synopsis. We need to continue to do our own learning, lead our own research, and decide on our own actions.

State Regulation of Private Schools - June 2000
    California
California provides significant educational opportunities and health programs to private school students. Recordkeeping/Reports: Transportation. Instruction in English: Discrimination: Teacher Certification: Curriculum: Special Education: Health: Safety: et seq. Transportation: State subsidized transportation for children attending parochial schools is proper under the California Constitution in view of the broad police powers of the state to promote educational welfare and safety of the children. Bowker v. Baker, 167 P.2d 256 (1946). Public Aid for Private Schools/Private School Students: The California Constitution prohibits the appropriation of public money for the support of sectarian or denominational schools or any other school not under the exclusive control of the officers of the public schools. Cal. Const. Art. IX. Section 8. In addition, Art. XVI. Section 5. prohibits any public support for a school controlled by any religious creed, church, or sectarian denomination, including any grant of personal property or real estate. The lending of textbooks, without charge, to students attending nonprofit, nonpublic schools violates the California Constitution prohibiting appropriations for the support of sectarian schools.
