San Benito County Weed Management Area
WMA Partners The San Benito County Weed Management Area (WMA) is a partnership of private organizations and public agencies joined together to help prevent the introduction and expansion of noxious and invasive weeds in the County. Noxious weeds do not respect property lines or jurisdictions. By combining resources and expertise of all the partners, the WMA is able to more effectively combat these "invader" weeds. WMA Partners have contributed equipment, materials, and personnel hours toward the WMA’s projects. Below is a list of WMA Partners and how to contact them.

Cooperative Extension Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Programs
We identified 27 volunteer water quality monitoring programs sponsored or co-sponsored by Cooperative Extension in the United States and its territories. Now we are up to 38! The map on the right shows where and to what extent Cooperative Extension is involved in volunteer water quality monitoring across the nation. Not shown is an Extension co-sponsored program in American Samoa.
The first of these programs began in 1978, the most recent this year. In parentheses next to each coordinator's name is the year that the program began. Program volunteers are monitoring a wide range of aquatic habitats including rivers, streams, lakes, ponds, wetlands, estuaries, and drinking water wells.
We have listed the programs that are sponsored or co-sponsored by Cooperative Extension by state in the directory that follows. We have tried our best to keep the contact information current. Many programs have websites; we have created links to these sites for your convenience. We encourage you to explore the wide range of Extension volunteer monitoring programs and contact those that interest you. All our coordinators are more than happy to share their expertise and enthusiasm with you!

Future Research USDA-Risk Avoidance and Mitigation Program: Development of grower decision-making tools to reduce risk and enchance sustainability of southern sweetpotato pest management systems. My role in this 4-year, 4-state (NC, LA, MS, AL) project is to address the pathology issues related to sweetpotato production. This includes preharvest conditions and their effect on postharvest susceptibility to diseases such as Rhizopus soft rot and bacterial stem and root rot. We are also characterizing the postharvest handling of sweetpotatoes by conducting in-depth packinghouse surveys.

Chinese Cabbage Bok Choy Chinese Mustard Flowering Cabbage ... Chinese Broccoli SPECIALTY CROPS: Chinese Cabbage and Related Oriental Crops COMMERCIAL VEGETABLE PRODUCTION Prepared by William Terry Kelley, Extension Horticulturist - Vegetable Crops Chinese Cabbage Chinese cabbage is a member of the Cruciferae family, which also includes cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and mustard. In fact, Chinese cabbage is more closely related to mustard than to cabbage. Though seemingly new to Southern diets, Chinese cabbage has been cultivated in North America for more than a century, and in China for almost 1,500 years. Today, it is grown for sale primarily in California, New Jersey, Hawaii and Florida. The flavor of Chinese cabbage is somewhat milder than cabbage when cooked or eaten raw and has been traditionally used in soups, egg rolls, stir-fry and for pickling. It can adequately substitute for cabbage in many Western dishes. Chinese cabbage is an annual that grows 10 to 20 inches tall. Two types are available: a leafy type (

Texas Agricultural Extension Service
Peppers are a warm season crop that will grow in most Texas areas. They grow in all types of soils but do best in heavier, well drained soils. Peppers should be planted in areas with at least 6 hours of sunlight each day. Varieties Sweet Peppers Hot Peppers Bell Tower
Shamrock
California Wonder
Keystone Resistant Giant
Yolo Wonder
Hungarian Wax
Long Red Cayenne
Jalapeno
TAM Mild Jalapeno Hidalgo Serrano Soil Preparation Work the soil 8-10 inches deep several weeks before planting. Rake it several times to break up the large clods. Add large amounts of organic (natural) matter especially if your soil is heavy clay. Work it into the soil. You can use compost, peat moss, rotted hay or other organic matter. Work the soil only when it is dry enough not to stick to garden tools. Fertilizing Add 2-3 pounds of fertilizer such as 10-10-10 per 100 square feet of garden area. Spread the fertilizer evenly over the garden. Work it into the soil. If you are going to plant single plants, place about 2 level tablespoons of fertilizer on the soil in the planting area. Mix it well with the soil. See figure 1. Planting Since most families need only a few plants, it is best to buy plants rather than grow them from seed. Buy healthy plants 4-6 inches tall. About three to four hot pepper plants and eight to ten sweet pepper plants usually are enough for a family of four. See figure 2.
