BUDDHIST Year One marks the death of Buddha which was around 543 B.C. Not all Buddhists follow this calendar. The Tibetan monks follow a calendar that comes full cycle every 60 years. It is related to the Chinese calendar, with each year named after an animal and an element. The new year begins on the Gregorian day of Feb. 6, 2000 It will be the end of the year of the Earth Hare and the beginning of the Year of the Iron Dragon. CHINESE China's calendar was invented in the Gregorian year of 2637 B.C. It has been revised many times. It runs in 60 year cycles, each year named for a constellation and for one of 12 animals connected to the Chinese Zodiac. The Chinese calendar is now in the 16th year of the current cycle, the year of the Rabbit. The year of the Dragon starts on the Gregorian Feb. 5, 2000. ETHIOPIAN COPTIC CHRISTIANS Ethiopian Orthodox Christians date Christ's birth akin to the Gregorian year A.D. 7. The Ethiopian calendar is similar to ancient Egypt with 12 months of 30 days and a 13th month of five days.

USA Adoption of Metric System Needed
In support of the Metric System, THE international system of measurement, the creator of this web site urges all USA businesses and residents, particularly renewable energy businesses, to adopt the metric system. The US Customary system of measurement is complicated, antiquated, and now an outdated system of measurement derived from imperial England. Even England and the rest of the United Kingdom have already adopted the metric system as their official system of measurement and it is time for the USA to do so as well. Only the USA, Myanmar (formerly known as Burma) and Liberia have not made the metric system their official system of measurement! The failure of the USA to thus far officially adopt the metric system, hinders USA exports. By the year 2010 the European Union will no longer allow any imports of products labeled with US customary units, only metric units will be allowed on the labels. It will be costly for USA companies to use one set of units on exports and another set of units on domestic products. This is more costly because such businesses will need to keep two separate sets of inventories for the same merchandise, one set with US units on the package and one set with metric only units on the package. This increases inventory costs. The USA needs to transition to metric now if it wants to continue to cost effectively compete in the global marketplace.

Reform of the Calendar
For the measurement of time the most important units furnished by natural phenomena are the Day and the Year . In regard of both, it is convenient and usual to speak of the apparent movements of the sun and stars as if they were real, and not occasioned by the rotation and revolution of the earth. The Day is the interval between two successive passages of the sun across the meridian of any place. It is commonly computed from the midnight passage across the inferior meridian on the opposite side of the globe; but by astronomers from the passage at the noon following. The Civil Day is thus twelve hours in advance of the Astronomical The Solar Day , which is what we always mean by this term day , is longer by about four minutes of time than the Sidereal , or the successive passages of a fixed star across the same meridian; for, owing to the revolution of the earth in its orbit from west to east, the sun appears to travel annually in a path (the ecliptic), likewise from west to east, among the stars round the entire heavens. The belt of constellations through which it appears to proceed is styled the zodiac. During half the year (March to September) the ecliptic lies to the north of the celestial equator; during the other half (September to March) to the south. The points where ecliptic and equator intersect are called the equinoxes. In the northern hemisphere the March equinox (or "first point of Aries") is called the vernal equinox; the September equinox ("first point of Libra"), the autumnal.

Benefit Accuracy Measurement Program
Calendar Year 1997 Data Calendar year (CY) 1997 data for the Unemployment Insurance (UI) Benefit Accuracy Measurement (BAM) program is summarized in the following table. The BAM program is one component of UI PERFORMS, the U. S. Department of Labor's system for promoting continuous improvement in UI performance. UI BAM rates are estimates based on randomly selected samples of UI payments. Overpayment and underpayment rates do not represent the actual percentages of errors detected in the population. These estimated rates are subject to sampling and nonsampling errors. The 95 percent confidence intervals for each State's overpayment and underpayment rates equal the estimated error rate plus and minus the value indicated in the column (+/). The true error rate is expected to lie within this interval for 95 percent of the samples of the size selected by the State. The 26,989 UI payments for which data were collected represents a completion rate of 99.9 percent of the cases sampled in CY 1997. Nonresponse bias is, therefore, not a significant issue. However, other sources of nonsampling error, such as differences among investigators in the interpretation of State unemployment compensation laws and administrative procedures, can effect accuracy rate estimates.

  • Measurement: Use non-standard units to measure length, weight, capacity
Grade 1 North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Mathematics Curriculum Competency Goal 4: Measurement. Lesson Plans: Using Cuisenaire rods or Unifix cubes or straws, measure the length of the teacher's desk, a tall book, and the bookcase. Use paper clips to measure shorter objects. If you use rods of a different color or larger paper clips, would the answer be the same? Determine the weight of classroom objects using counters as nonstandard units and a balance. Estimate and then check to see how many counters balance the object.
  • Measurement: Choose appropriate tool for measuring
Grade 2 North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Mathematics Curriculum Competency Goal 4: Standard units of metric and customary measurement. Lesson Plans: Show student a book. Ask child to get from the measurement center what is needed to determine how long the book is (an inch or centimeter ruler). Ask child how to figure out what the book weighs. What is needed to weigh the book? Would a ruler help? Ask student to measure the length of a pencil. Give student the choice of using a centimeter ruler or a meter stick (or an inch ruler or a yard stick).

::Calendar Measuring the Astrological Potential for Terrorism
I have had so many of my friends, family, clients and students want to know when the next time a terror exists for this country that I have developed a calendar offering my own measurement for terrorism. I am basing my measurements off from the 911 experience. The same measurement I used to predict a year marked with terrorism in 2001 for the United States. You may view my archive. September 8-18, 2001 measured 14. The method is quite simple. These numbers measure hidden activity for the United States. The highest is 14 to date. This would indicate that a very serious threat exists. It could be done for any country. 1-4 is manageable. 5 is a heads-up, and 6 is active abductions, disgruntled prisoners, hospital activity, and terror activity. Above 6, situations are brewing covertly. Below you will see a calendar for September 2002. Remember, you don't have to be Al Qaeda to be a terrorist. Abduction and homicide are forms of terror, too. Also, we have all kinds of secret service and prisoner acts that will show up in this measurement. I will clarify where I can. The goal here is to bring a helpful awareness to the public. The danger of this calendar is that it focuses primarily on giving a terrorism measurement. This means I am not mentioning other important news. Please realize there is other news out there. Terrorism just happens to be a fact of life these days. Perhaps this can offer a heads-up and save some lives.

Over the centuries, there have been many different ways of organizing calendar systems. Different races, continents and even countries have used different ways to count their days. Some of the earliest ever recorded calendars was the Mayan Long Count , the Sumerians, the Chinese, the Romans, the Jews and the Christians all invented new calendars for various reasons. Now
Today almost all the western world use the CE ( common era ) dating system. This emerged out of the Gregorian Calendar, which was invented by the office of pope Gregory XIII in 1582 ( only 400 years ago! ).
The Gregorian Calendar was adopted by Britain and her Colonies in 1751 ( only 250 years ago )
Ten years ago we called this AD ( Anno Domini ), but we don't use latin anymore, as these days it is just confusing jargon, and relies on an expensive public school education to make any sense of it at all. And besides it makes all year ends into a pseudo christian festival, and these days such concepts are alien and irrelevant to the general population, and to some people even offensive and even oppressive, probably!
