The children were dressed in layers of unmatched clothing of varying size. The cold reflected more than the winter season. "Are there any children in this orphanage who are available for adoption?" we asked. Our translator questioned the director. A moment later came the answer that changed our lives. "There is a little boy. He is almost 4. He has rather big ears." My husband and I exchanged hopeful glances. "Can we see him?" Mickey was quiet, subdued, barely curious about the strangers who reached out their hands and attempted to lift him into their waiting laps. He resisted. He never made a sound. No matter.
