resident Bush enters his run for re-election with a few simple themes: That under his leadership, he has hunted down terrorists, routed the Taliban from Afghanistan, toppled Saddam Hussein, and presided over an economy that, after a rocky three years, shows signs of solid recovery. But along the way, he has amassed a lot of scar tissue, and the Democrats plan to portray him as a president who scaled back environmental protections, appointed deeply conservative judges, restricted civil liberties and alienated some of America's closest allies. My fellow Texans, once again I have taken a solemn vow to uphold the Constitution and the laws of this great state. I am honored to continue serving as your governor. I am humbled because elections are far more than just votes that are tallied. Every vote cast is a hope. A hope that a child will get a good education. A hope that a neighborhood will be free from drugs and crime. A hope that the years ahead will bring a better life for each generation. I have high hopes for the future of Texas. The 2lst century will be one of great opportunity. Our economy will be strong, so long as we pursue free markets, free trade, low taxes and limited government So I am optimistic our children's lives will continue to improve in material terms. The risk is that their moral and spiritual lives will not

by Kelley Kramer I recently had an email exchange with a right-winger from my local newspaper, and of course the war with Iraq came up pretty quick. But he said something in defense of George Bush that really surprised me. In defense of the attack on Iraq he said 'between Hussein and Bush, Hussein is the bad guy'. My first response was ... Vice President Implicated in "Coordinated" Effort to Award No-Bid Iraq Deal to Halliburton
- A report in Time magazine has revealed that a "multibillion dollar Iraq oil deal" was awarded to Vice President Cheney's form Company, Halliburton Co., after an effort "coordinated" through the Vice President's office. A March 5, 2003 e-mail shows that Undersecretary of Defense for Policy in the Bush administration Douglas Feith "approved the arrangement" to award Halliburton contract. According to the e-mail, uncovered as a result of a Freedom of Information Act request by government watchdog Judicial Watch, the contract was "contingent on informing WH [White House] tomorrow. We anticipate no issues since action has been coordinated w[ith] VP's office." Three days later, Halliburton was awarded deal without the usual competitive bidding. Cheney served as CEO of Halliburton from 1995 to 2000. According to one official congressional report, he still receives about $150,000 a year in "deferred compensation" and holds over 433,000 stock options.

Journalism George Walker Bush "I ve got a significant strawberry." spoken to reporters about injuries he received after narrowly avoiding flying debris when an out-of-control trailer overturned near where he was jogging. Best known for: Born: July 6, 1946 in New Haven, Connecticut, while his father, former U.S. President George H.W. Bush , was a student at Yale. Family: Education: Attended Phillips Academy prep school at Andover, then Yale from 1964 until 1968 and graduated with a major in history; played baseball during freshman year and rugby during junior and senior years; became a member of the super-secret Skull and Bones society, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather; later attended Harvard and earned a Masters of Business Administration in 1975. Bush was such a mediocre student that the dean of students at Andover was pessimistic about his chances of getting into Yale. The suggested that he have a backup option. Harvard Business school was a backup option that he had to take advantage of after the University of Texas law school turned him down. Harvard alums say the admissions process was somewhat mysterious. One of Bush's Harvard classmates was a circus barker. Profession: On June 22, 1990, George Jr. sold two-thirds of his Harken stock for $848,560-a cool 200 percent profit. The move was well timed. One week after Junior sold his stock, Harken announced a $23.2 million loss in quarterly earnings and Harken stock dropped sharply, losing 60 percent of its value over the next six months. On August 2, 1990, Iraqi troops moved into Kuwait and 541,000 U.S. forces were deployed to the Gulf.

The secret: Details of their membership in Skull and Bones, the elite Yale society whose members include some of the most powerful men of the 20th century.
