Country name:
conventional long form: Union of Burma
conventional short form: Burma
local long form: Pyidaungzu Myanma Naingngandaw (translated by the US Government as Union of Myanma and by the Burmese as Union of Myanmar)
local short form: Myanma Naingngandaw
former: Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma Data code: BM Government type: military regime A military dictatorship is a form of government wherein the political power resides within the military; it is similar but not identical to a stratocracy , i.e. , a state ruled directly by the military. Like all dictatorships, a military dictatorship may be official or unofficial, and as a result may not actually qualify as stratocratic (some military dictators, like Manuel Noriega, are nominally subordinate to the civil government). Mixed forms also exist, where the military exerts a very strong influence without being entirely dominant.

Welcome to Doug Burnett's Travelogues: What could be better - a new city and plenty of time to explore. I love to just wander around with no particular place to be, taking each day as it comes. Of course, travel is not always like that: some days you must rise early and run to catch the train; others you end up wandering around in the rain looking for a decent hotel. But it's the hope that there will be something truly remarkable around the next corner that keeps me going. Here are my most recent trips: New South India, January 2004 Blessed by elephants, accosed by sadhus and crushed by wet pilgrams - Ah, India. First Madurai and Trichy , then Pondicherry and Mamallapuram , and finally Bangalore, Mysore and Chennai New: Photo album: Java, October 2003 Breath-taking scenery, magnificent old temples, quick-to-smile locals but way too much rain. First stop Yogyakarta and then on to Wonosobo, Pangandaran and Jakarta Photo album: Sri Lanka, February 2003 What a place: friendly people, interesting sights, wonderful weather and elephants everywhere. First, a tour of the Cultural Triangle , followed by a few days in Kandy , and finally relaxing at the beach in Unawatuna Photo album: First, up to chilly

120. The Life And Work Of Adoniram Judson, Missionary To Burma
Brief, yet welldocumented, account of Judson's life and legacy.
http://www.robibrad.demon.co.uk/Judson.htm
The Life and Work of Adoniram Judson, Missionary To Burma
Adoniram Judson was born on the 9th August 1788, the son of a stern and humourless Congregationalist minister, in Malden, Massachusetts, USA. He showed early in his life that he was a brilliant child. However, during his time at what is know known as Brown's College he was greatly influenced by the Deistic beliefs of a close friend called Jacob Eames. On his return home he announced to his shocked parents his rejection of Christianity and left for New York to take up a career as a playwright. This turned out to be a mistake, and sickened and disappointed he found himself alone at an inn. There was only one room left on that rainy night, and that was next door to a dying man. After a fitful night he was brought to his senses by the reality of death and returned home to his parents, but they were still unable to help him or to answer his intellectual reservations(8). However it was arranged for him to enter Andover Theological Seminary as a special student, and here, after several months that he finally overcame his reservations and dedicated his life to the Lord.
