Introduction
Financial planning helps you use your money to get the most out of life. A financial plan, or budget, is a decision-making tool based on the basic principles of scarcity, choice, and opportunity cost. Without a financial plan, impulse buying may make it difficult to "make ends meet," no matter your income. Equipped with an understanding of financial planning, students are better able to adapt to ever-changing economic conditions. It is important to realize that every purchase involves cost. To be truly satisfied with a purchase depends on analyzing its costs and benefits.

Budget Help Personal Money Management
Avoid Money Management Mistakes
1. NO SPENDING PLAN. The "where does the money go?" question frequently comes up because of spending on a day-to-day basis, without any sort of plan for taking care of needs and wants. Here's where a money management program can help you spend your money wisely, to reach your goals. First, set up priorities: know your regular expenses; determine what your goals are in relation to short-and long-range aims. Take critical look at your expenses and weed out those that don't give real satisfaction. 2. NO CASH RESERVE. Financial experts recommend that every family have a cash reserve of at least 50 percent of their annual income. To acquire this means developing good saving habits and self-restraint in spending. There is a definite need to save so you have an emergency fund when unexpected expenses arise. Knowing you have a safety margin of savings will also give you a feeling of security and greater peace of mind. And don't forget a savings account enhances your credit standing.

Gender Budgeting

Investing or paying off debt If you receive a windfall of cash (such as a tax refund or collection of a debt from a friend), you may face a common dilemma: Invest, pay off debt, or spend. (Spending is not considered as an option here.) If better personal budgeting has helped you save an additional amount every month, a debt repayment plan may be preferable to saving until most of the debt is gone. In another topic, Managing interest rates , we explained that savvy borrowers and investors benefit by knowing the effective interest rates on their borrowings and investments. The effective interest rate is the true cost of borrowing or saving, adjusted for closing costs, fees, and taxes. Generally, paying off or paying down a debt that has a higher interest rate is preferable to making an investment that earns a lower interest rate or rate of return . To make a fair comparison, you need to calculate the
