The BC Liberal Government will invest $722 million in school capital improvements across B.C. over the next three years to ensure a safe, healthy learning environment that allows students to achieve their best. “Safe, properly equipped learning environments are vital to improving student achievement. Under our new three-year capital plan, the Province will be investing three-quarters of a billion dollars in new schools and facility improvements for 66 different schools across B.C. This includes $315 million in brand-new funding. Information is gathered through geoscience field surveys and from industry assessment reports filed in compliance with legislation. The inventory is used to attract industry investment, to assist government's stewardship of its rich mineral resource endowment, and to help manage and protect Crown lands. The main activities include: geological and geochemical surveying; mineral, coal and industrial mineral inventories management; mineral potential assessments for land use planning; monitoring exploration activities; assessing geological hazards; publishing maps and reports; and providing geoscience expertise to support government's sustainable development objectives. HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT IN B.C.
CHILLIWACK - Natural Resources Minister and MP (Vancouver South-Burnaby) Herb Dhaliwal, on behalf of Transport Minister David Collenette, together with Solicitor General Rich Coleman on behalf of British Columbia Transportation Minister Judith Reid, and Barry Penner, MLA for Chilliwack-Kent, today announced that the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia will contribute joint funding of close to $7 million for a highway improvement project in British Columbia. The project involves realigning a 3.4 km section of the Trans-Canada Highway near Chilliwack. The funding falls under the Canada/B.C. Strategic Highway Infrastructure Program (SHIP) “The Trans-Canada highway is essential to trade and tourism in this province,” said Mr. Dhaliwal. “The improvements made on this highway will enhance public safety for the benefit of B.C. residents and visitors.” “I am pleased that federal funds from the Strategic Highway Infrastructure Program are being used to upgrade the Trans Canada Highway,” said Mr. Collenette. “These improvements to the National Highway System are vital to the economy and enhance not only safety but the capacity to move goods quickly and efficiently.”

TO TWO HIGHWAY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS IN B.C.
KAMLOOPS - British Columbia Senator D. Ross Fitzpatrick, on behalf of Transport Minister David Collenette, together with British Columbia Premier Gordon Campbell and Judith Reid, British Columbia Minister of Transportation, today announced that the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia will contribute joint funding of $16.71 million for two highway construction projects at Preacher Hill and Broderick Creek. The funding falls under the Canada/B.C. Strategic Highway Infrastructure Program (SHIP) “This funding will play an important role in helping to improve British Columbia’s roads and highways,” said Mr. Fitzpatrick. “These joint projects are also an excellent example of cooperation between the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia.” “I am pleased that funds from the Government of Canada’s Strategic Highway Infrastructure Program are being used for these highway construction projects,” said Mr. Collenette. “These highway improvements will enhance public safety and benefit visitors and trade. The Government of Canada has committed $228 million to improve B.C. highways through our various federal infrastructure funds.”
