Federation of Labour Secretary-Treasurer Angela Schira today joined members of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers (CEP) union at Bell Canada's Annual General Meeting in Vancouver to raise awareness about the union's continuing legal battle to reach a pay equity settlement for Bell Operators. The company has been stalling for over a decade on settling the case, spending over $5 million annually in legal bills. Over 5,000 CEP members — many who no longer hold positions with Bell because of tech change that has virtually eliminated the job — continue to wait for back-owed wages. Bell has launched an aggressive advertising campaign in British Columbia, urging BC residents to switch their service and claiming to be a 'great Canadian company'. The CEP, supported by the B.C. Federation of Labour, is asking people thinking of switching their service to call the company and tell them to settle the pay equity claim immediately.
