Introduction What Is Aboriginal Cultural Tourism The Cultural experience is authenticated in one of two ways:
  • As a direct result of permission provided through that person or persons Cultural Keepers, Elders or those designated with the authority to approve the sharing of the experience as it relates to that culture; or
  • AtBC operates under the guiding principal that Aboriginal Cultural protocol must be adhered to and that AtBC members must operate their businesses with the highest degree of integrity and respect for other Aboriginal people, their beliefs and their traditions.
What We Need From You How Your Comments will be Used Remember that your opinions are very important in making this Blueprint Strategy a practical and comprehensive guide for future Aboriginal Cultural Tourism development in this province. Your own views will be kept strictly confidential. They will be combined with those of many other Aboriginal people and communities to shape this strategy and its related programs. So please send in your views sooner than later. Your thoughts and perspectives are both welcome and needed. Thanks so much for helping in this important work.

CANADA AND BRITISH COLUMBIA ANNOUNCE A TREATY RELATED MEASURE WITH THE TSAWWASSEN FIRST NATION TSAWWASSEN, BRITISH COLUMBIA (JULY 28, 2000) - At a public Main Table meeting today, chaired by the British Columbia Treaty Commission, the governments of Canada and British Columbia announced that a Treaty Related Measure ( TRM ), a type of interim measure, was concluded with the Tsawwassen First Nation. Parties to the TRM include the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, the Ministry of Aboriginal Affairs and the Tsawwassen First Nation. The Parties agreed that treaty negotiations are at a stage where cultural heritage resources information, related to the Tsawwassen First Nation, will help to further the negotiation process. Therefore, Canada and British Columbia agreed to fund a Cultural Heritage Resources Study. The study addresses existing gaps in cultural heritage information. The announcement of the TRM represents an important milestone in the Tsawwassen treaty negotiations. It demonstrates the commitment of the parties to work together to find innovative ways to help advance the Tsawwassen treaty negotiations. As outlined in a letter signed by the three Parties at a public Main Table meeting on May 11, 2000, the study will provide a number of benefits to the negotiation process. The information will support the land selection negotiations and cultural heritage resources negotiations, and provide information to further discussions on the resolution of overlap issues, between the Tsawwassen First Nation and other First Nations.

First Nations Studies takes the points of view of First Nations people and communities as the starting point for description and analysis, and contextualizes issues from this perspective. Courses in First Nations Studies will re-orient students to question the underlying assumptions of everyday understandings and will develop clarity in thought and presentation critical to advanced study.
First Nations Studies is a valuable part of any good undergraduate education in the contemporary world; it is an appropriate undergraduate major for students aspiring to careers in education, business, public administration, law, communications, cultural property management, social services, health care delivery and administration, and many other fields. With an undergraduate major in First Nations Studies students may apply for admission to graduate programs in several academic disciplines, and to many professional programs. Students intending to apply for graduate or professional programs should ensure that their programs include all required prerequisites.
