123. Bangkok Breast Cancer Support Group
Offers support and encouragement with objectives explained and mission stated.
http://www.bangkokbreastcancer.com/
As a doctor once said: "With breast cancer, you're treating not just the disease, but the entire woman." The Bangkok Breast Cancer Support Group is here to help you where your doctor leaves off. The Bangkok Breast Cancer Support Group is comprised of over twenty volunteer women who've had experience with breast cancer - we're either surviving breast cancer ourselves, or have been close to other women who've had it. The group's objective is to provide emotional support both to each other, and to women who've been recently diagnosed with breast cancer. Whether you're Thai, American, British, Malaysian, Cambodian, French, Australian... women of all nationalities need support when they've been diagnosed with cancer, are being treated for it, or are recovering from their treatment. That's what we're here for. The group meets on a monthly basis, with private consultations and visits whenever a woman needs to talk to someone who's been where she has. Women of all languages and income levels are catered to, as well as patients of all hospitals. Usually meetings are conducted in English, so women who don't speak English often bring a close friend who can. We're also here to answer questions about breast cancer anyone might have. Our answers come from our combined experience. Another important objective of the group is to provide education to women in Thailand about the prevention and early detection of breast cancer. The group arranges talks on breast cancer prevention for companies as well as for interested individuals.

Success Stories We have the most informative, supportive and caring group of ladies (men) on the internet. I mention men, only because we have a men's support board called Men Only board. Husbands, boyfriends and male family members are greatly effected by this disease. This forum of interaction with breast cancer is to help those survivors who need support and generally what to expect from surgery, radiation and chemotherapy as told by survivors who have undergone the treatment. There are no two breast cancer experiences exactly the same and this is the time and place to tell and share your experience with others. Those who tell of their experiences also need support and may need further treatment themselves and they in turn can learn from you of new treatments, advanced surgery and new drugs.Physician comments are always welcome and encouraged. All survivors should consult an oncologist as this site is an adjunct to a good physician's care. Many people have given their time and effort in writing their experiences in the guestbook for YOU below. Please return their favor and likewise enter your experience or comments to the guestbook. In speaking for our thousands of signed members and all those who have contributed to the site and joined our group, thank you.

Breast Cancer Resources Directory Home Cancer Types Breast Cancer Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women, the risk of breast cancer increases with age, it is most common after the age of 50. Each breast has 15- 20 sections (lobes), each of which has many smaller sections (lobules). The lobes and lobules are connected by thin tubes (ducts). The most frequent type of breast cancer is that starting in the ducts (ductal cancer), other types include cancer beginning in the lobes or lobules (lobular carcinoma), less common is Inflammatory breast cancer which causes the breast to be red, and swollen. ( Thursday, May 03, 2001) - New York's Selma Rosen was eleven years old when she started smoking and "became addicted," as she explains it. She smoked for 34 years and even quit for a stretch until she relapsed back into her habit. Now 57, Rosen is a lung cancer survivor, a condition that she says has changed her life dramatically. "I was working full-time and now I no longer am. I have emphysema, anemia and shortness of breath because I had half of my right lung removed," she says. Rosen is not alone. Lung cancer will kill nearly one in four cancer-stricken women this year, a higher rate than deaths from breast cancer, U.S. Surgeon General David Satcher recently reported. Among additional stark findings of importance to the 22 million adult women who smoke in America, researchers say that tobacco companies have stepped up marketing efforts to women, stalling progress in programs that support those who try to stop smoking. Satcher and officials like Tommy Thompson, who heads up the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, beat the drum hard on the report's findings, but anti-tobacco advocates say the
