The Brunswick-sponsored team of Jeff Poholsky (Pittsburgh), Robert Alexander (Transfer, Pa.), Roger Kossert (Tampa, Fla.), Bruce Hollen (Baltimore) and Doug Becker (Clermont, Fla.) won the World Team Challenge event in Seminole, Fla. to earn $3,100 and qualify for the Grand Finals in November at a site to be determined. Mike Chontos (Finleyville,) didn't make the trip because of an injury. First place at the ABC-sanctioned Grand Finals is worth $15,000. Poholsky, Chontos, Kossert and Alexander formed the nucleus of the Brunswick team that won qualifying events in 1996, '97 and '98 and finished second the past three years. "We're usually in contention," said Poholsky, a business analyst. "We were due to win again. We're a very experienced team."

But it stood tall alone on the deck. So Bob Kokos , a right-hander, had to be content with a 299 in the Monday Night Classic League at Arsenal Lanes in Lawrenceville. Kokos' 299 combined with Warren Frazier's Jason Marshall's 223 and Chris Kravic's 250 for a 984 total that established a new league high for a single game. Paul Buncher , owner of Arsenal Lanes, has been on a roll and leads the Thursday Night House League with a 230 average. Purdue bowling team heads to national tourney
By Paul Trembacki
Sports Editor The Purdue bowling team is rolling on to the national tournament for the first time in the event's 26-year history. "Our guys are really excited because they know that no Purdue men's bowling team has ever gone to nationals," said Purdue bowling coach Brian Pechia. "They can't wait to get there, even though it means spending 12 hours in a van." The six-man team left at 5 p.m. Tuesday for Wichita, Kan., and will arrive in time for a Wednesday night banquet. They will have plenty of time to rest before competition begins Thursday and continues through Sunday with the finals being taped for television. The Boilers will bowl 32 games in the first two days and be seeded from 1-16 according to how they perform. The team scores are not based on individual performances. The national tournament uses the Baker system of bowling, which means five players must each bowl two frames to equal the 10 frames for each game. "We're considered one of the top eight teams in the nation when it comes to Baker bowling," said Pechia. "We can throw the strikes, but we're more of a spare-shooting team, and that makes us much more competitive."

The Net provides us with a whole new method of communication and thankfully - the Net goes Bowling! Any column about Bowling and the Internet would be remiss without a mention of one of the Web's most comprehensive, entertaining and intriguing sites of all- The Complete Bowling Index The most fun that I had on the Net this week was visiting, reading and reviewing Collegiate Bowling Home pages My only disappointment is that of the dozens of colleges that have teams that participate in inter-collegiate competition, only a handful of them offer Home pages.
October 15, 1997 Collegiate bowling surfs the net! by Jan Leasure "The Net!" These two little words have taken on a whole new meaning in the '90's! Hair net? Fish net? Butterfly net? I don't think so! "The Net," today can only mean one thing-The Internet! The Net provides us with a whole new method of communication and thankfully - the Net goes Bowling! The Internet and various forms of on-line e-mail services allow college students today to keep in touch instantaneously. These same services allow us to obtain some great information about our favorite sport-Bowling-if we only know where to look. The most fascinating site that The Complete Bowling Index turned me on to was the Official Web Site of the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. Hey, if you can't afford a trip to St. Louis this week to visit the museum in person, a quick visit to the web-site is the next best thing. Although I loved the interesting facts and memorabilia, my favorite Museum page was the on-line bowling quiz. Your score is tabulated on a bowling score sheet-my score was only 150! You receive an "open" for every incorrect answer and of course a "strike" if you are right. One question surprised me-they ask what year the only sanctioned "900" series was bowled, but they never provide the name of the bowler who shot the honor score! If you know the answer, you can enlighten me by e-mailing me at: SKUZME@aol.com. Visit the museum on-line at: www.Bowlingmuseum.com and see if you can top my quiz score!
