"Go to www.teamworkonline.com to find jobs with sports teams," (Michael Hiestand; USA Today, July 31st) Kristin Bernert
When I joined Mark McCormack's International Management Group in 1978, I was the only female agent in the company. When we held staff breakfast meetings at the Union Club, I was the only one who had to use the back elevator as the front stairs were reserved strictly for men. In fact, I was reprimanded by Mr. McCormack's secretary for taking the front stairs down after the meeting. So you can imagine how surprised I was when the NBA recently hosted its annual NBA Team Jobs Fair in early April. Young to-be-graduating students applied to get into this job fair for entry-level ticket sales jobs. A little more than 100 students were invited, many of them were women. The women were the most sought-after candidates! Oh, the times they are a-changin'. Oh, the times they are a-changin'. This past fall, there we were three 40ish women (I hope the others are 40ish because I'm now a 50ish!) sitting in a steakhouse at lunchtime talking business. One of the women was a major league baseball team president; the other a Chief Financial Officer and me! Okay, you'd think it was maybe a dream. But it wasn't. The times they are a-changin' - we all thought!

Lady Bears Bowling Team Making Big Moves
By Jacob Jennifer Published: Tuesday, March 12, 2002 A lot of you don't even know we have a bowling team here at Morgan.  Not only do we have a team but they are actually good.  Very Good. The team of seniors Julie Hylton and Janelle Lewis, junior Lee Ann Lewis and freshmen Katrina Simms and Heather Kilgore are number 19 in the power rankings in national collegiate competition of hundreds of schools. The team finished second in their division in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and second in the MEAC tournament.  Lewis made the all-tournament team.  They also compete in the Eastern Pennsylvania Maryland Intercollegiate Conference (EPMIBC) where they finished second during the regular season and second in the tournament.  Hylton and Lewis won the doubles, Lewis won the singles and won all events as well as making the all tournament team according to Coach J. Brown. "The young ladies have done a great job this year, competing against some of the best universities in the country," said Brown.

Bowling
Bowling is a very popular recreational and competitive activity enjoyed by individuals of all abilities. It is an indoor activity with minimal equipment adaptations and easily accessible across the country. Bowling is an official activity of the United States Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF), the United States Cerebral Palsy Athletic Association (USCPAA), and Special Olympics International (SOI), and the American Wheelchair Bowling Association (AWBA). (see links below)
Equipment
A wide range of adapted equipment is available for individuals of all ability levels to participate and compete in bowling.
Ball ramps: There are several different models of ramps that can be used from the standing and sitting positions. Ball ramps allow individuals who are unable to throw a bowling ball to participate in bowling. The most popular ramps are made of tubular aluminum that are lightweight and disassemble easily for storage. Some commercial ramps have swivel bases that allow directional control. Non-commercial ramps work just as well and can easily be made from wood.
The Poss-I-Bowl, left,is a switch controlled device that attaches to any tubular bowling ramp. It allows individuals to release the ball by pressing a switch. When the switch is pressed, the ball is released and travels down the ramp and onto the lane.

Marines Stun Air Force, Army in Armed Forces Bowling Championships By Tim Hipps
USACFSC Public Affairs LAS VEGAS Gunnery Sgt. Jim Hall, Gunnery Sgt. Rob Fleck, Sgt. Warren Bennett, Master Gunnery Sgt. Rick Barnard, Master Gunnery Sgt. Mike Shore and Staff Sgt. Donnie Thompson combined to win the championship with a 48-game total of 9,199 – just three pins more than heavily favored Air Force's 9,196. For the first time ever, the Armed Forces Championships were contested in conjunction with the 2004 USA Bowling National Amateur Championships, which determine the 16 members of Team USA . Although the pairing in three daily flights eliminated the intensity of head-to-head competition between service members, the military bowlers expressed delight in competing alongside the best amateur bowlers in America . “I liked the competition because we saw the college kids and the state champs here,” Hall said. “They looked like machines compared to us who bowl only once or twice a week. These kids in college bowl every day, and they definitely let you know what you have to do with your game. You have to pick your game up or you'll be sitting on the sidelines.” Hall threw his right shoulder out of socket in Las Vegas , but that didn't stop him from completing 24 games with a 2,480 total, good for 91 st among 141 male bowlers in the 2004 USA Bowling National Amateur Championships. Hall, who separated two shoulders during hand-to-hand combat training in Kuwait last July and September, said his “love of the game” made him “suck up the pain and bowl” for three solid days.

AREA SPORTS IN BRIEF: Colon team reaps state bowling title
May 4, 2004 Golden Harvest of Colon lived up to its name by reaping top money as the team champion in the 101st Michigan State Bowling Association tournament. The 16-week tournament ended Sunday at Monroe, where team events were bowled at the Monroe Sport Center and singles and doubles at Nortel Lanes. Team champions Gerald Thrams, Steve Landess, Chris Lucas, Ray Thrams and Ronald Thrams, who were sponsored by Golden Harvest seed company, will split the top prize money of $4,500. They totaled 3,663 with handicap. Ray and Gerald are brothers, and Ronald is Gerald's son. "Are we the winners?" asked Ray Thrams, whose team posted the score March 14. When the answer was affirmative, he replied, "That's great. We all got hot at the same time. It's one of those once-in-a-lifetime things." Singles was won by Steve Evans of Lapeer (874), doubles by Glenn Buono and Steve Johnson of Marlette (1,536), and all-events by Brian Lackowski of Bad Axe (2,470). Each player earned $900.
