Festus Mogae Botswana De nombre completo Festus Gontebanye Mogae * 21 de agosto de 1939, Serowe, Distrito Central. N acido en el seno de una familia de pastores de reses y reclutado para la élite profesional indígena que los británicos adiestraron en vísperas de la concesión de la independencia (30 de septiembre de 1966) a su entonces colonia de Bechuanalandia, con la ayuda de becas se labró la formación como economista en las universidades de Oxford y Sussex. En 1968 entró en la flamante administración del Estado como alto funcionario de Planificación. Su carrera de servidor público se desarrolló con regularidad ascendente durante las presidencias de Seretse Khama y, desde julio de 1980, Quett Masire, dos dirigentes prudentes, capaces y apegados al modelo parlamentario que hizo del régimen del Partido Democrático de Botswana (BDP) la democracia pluralista más avanzada y estable del continente, convirtiendo a este poco mencionado país de África austral en un caso excepcional de estabilidad política y libertades públicas, máxime cuando estaba rodeado de agresivos gobiernos racistas blancos y otros de la mayoría negra emancipada, pero aferrados al partido único y la dictadura personalista. Hasta 1976 Mogae ejerció en el Gobierno como director de Asuntos Económicos y secretario de Estado del Ministerio de Finanzas y Desarrollo Económico, oficina que llevaba pareja la condición de gobernador suplente en las juntas del FMI, el Banco Africano de Desarrollo (BAD) y el Banco Internacional de Reconstrucción y Desarrollo (BIRD). Adicionalmente, en todos estos años sirvió en un buen número de comisiones y empresas sectoriales de carácter público o privado, como la Corporación del Desarrollo de Botswana (BDC), que presidió, y la De Beers Botswana Mining Company, hoy llamada Debswana Diamond Company, empresa que tiene el monopolio de la producción de diamantes -la cual sólo se remonta a 1967- y que es propiedad a partes iguales del Estado botswano y la multinacional sudafricana De Beers, si bien el primero se lleva la parte del león de los ingresos.

It has land borders with Zimbabwe in the northeast, South Africa in the south and southeast and with Namibia to the west. The country is a broad tableland with a mean altitude of 3,300 ft. OMANG Crisis Thousands may not vote in the coming elections by Gazette reporters GOVERNMENT has suspended the production of national identity cards(Omang), after it was discovered that some cards do not bear authentic features. The Government was put on alert after a large number of people were refused service by a local bank because it doubted the authenticity of their IDs. It has turned out that the suppliers of the paper used in the production of Omang cards have been supplying the wrong material. Information reaching The Gazette is that some people are being sent back by some commercial banks because they carry "fake" Omang cards. Large numbers of recently produced Omang cards are said to be unreadable when scanned for security purposes at the banks, especially the First National Bank, (FNB) which is said to have tipped off the Civil and National Registration Department about the problem. One of the tellers at a Gaborone FNB branch confirmed to The Gazette that indeed they have sent back a number of people who came with Omang cards that could not be read by their scanner.

AFRIQUE DU SUD LESOTHO NAMIBIE ZIMBABWE au nord (Kasane), le delta de l' Okavango (Maun), ou ses " pans " de sel désertiques, (Makgadikgadi) etc... Mais malheureusement, le pays s'ouvre à un certain tourisme auquel nous n'adhérons pas : le plus luxueux soit-il, et il est très difficile d'y trouver des chambres d'hôtels à un prix décent ! Donc, pour nous, la seule solution était de louer un 4X4 en Afrique du Sud et de dormir dedans, ... ou plutôt dessus ! Les voyages style "routard" avec tente et peu d'espoir de se laver tous les jours nous convenant parfaitement, nous avons pu profiter d'endroits magnifiques dans la plus parfaite solitude et liberté :-)), et nous ne regrettons absolument pas la formule ! Le Botswana ne compte que 1,5 million d'habitants, principalement des Tswana, concentrés dans la partie méridionale où se trouvent les terres aisément cultivables.
