Information about the admission fees, flower shop and garden nursery, orchid culture, photos, and tissue culture lab are given.
http://www.ncbg.org.pg/
Background: Situated within the vast campus of the University of Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby, the National Capital Botanical Gardens is one of the prime tourist attractions in the country. André Millar established the gardens in 1971 on some 25 hectares of land and some of her ground breaking work is still evident, most prominently the large area of rainforest, a most unusual sight for normally dry and dusty Port Moresby. The gardens were initially established as a teaching garden for the UPNG Biology Department and also as a nursery to supply plants for the University grounds. After Mrs. Millar's departure in the late 1970's the gardens experienced problems with management and funding and eventually declined from a beautiful garden to a desolate piece of bushland. In 1993 the National Capital District Commission took over the assets of the gardens and established a major redevelopment program. NCBG today: The National Capital Botanical Gardens has a huge collection of plants from all over Papua New Guinea as well as many plants from other parts of the world. These include many palm species, bamboos, heliconias, cordyline, pandanus, native trees and shrubs. Well known for its extensive collection of Papua New Guinea orchid species housed in large greenhouses the gardens have large orchid houses for orchid hybrids producing cut flowers for the own flower shop. There are a number of animals on display, like tree climbing kangaroos, gouria pigeons

27. Welcome To Spetchley Park And Gardens
Offers rare trees, shrubs and plants. It is a Victorian garden with woodland and herbaceous plants seldom found outside the major botanical gardens. Located in Worcestershire, England.
http://www.spetchleygardens.co.uk/
History Welcome to Our Garden News
Virtually hidden from the road, and largely unaltered in the last century, this lovely 30 acre Victorian paradise, belonging to Mr. and Mrs. R.J.G. Berkeley, has been lovingly created by successive generations of the Berkeley family, and boasts an enviable collection of plant treasures from every corner of the globe. Clumps of wild primrose push up randomly through sapphire carpets of crocus and swathes of sunny daffodils in Spring, with billowing borders of blowsy perennials and tender exotics in Summer, and a palette of burnt orange, ochre and fiery red in Autumn. From the first tantalizing glimpse of the garden across the magnolia-fringed Horse Pool, back round to the entrance through the Melon Yard with its olives and delicious pineapple-scented flowers, Spetchley is full of surprises. There are unexpected vistas framed by borrowed landscape, far-reaching views of the Malvern Hills, and a surprise around every corner, be it the rare and quirky Root House, the delightful statues of Adam and Eve watching over the Bath stone alcove or the mighty Lucombe oak tree on the Cork Lawn.

The Memorial University of Newfoundland Botanical Garden was opened to the public in July 1977. Since that time it has been developed to display plants native to the province and cultivated plants suitable to the local climate and to provide access to a number of habitats through a system of trails. The Garden is a resource centre for basic and applied botanical research and education with a particular interest in the flora of Newfoundland and Labrador. It seeks to foster an appreciation of natural history in the development and future of the university and the province. The Garden became a not-for-profit corporation in 1994. If you would like to invite Mary Soderstrom to speak to your group about the gardens she visited while researching this book, contact Véhicule Press at marketing@vehiculepress.com. Recreating Eden: A Natural History of Botanical Gardens is more than pictures of beautiful flowers and landscape arrangements; more than a guide to some of the loveliest sites in the world; more, even, than a short and lively history of the development of the idea of a botanical garden. It is the story of mankind's search for the right place, a search which has been going on since our ancestors wandered on the plains of East Africa. Because of this, the book will appeal to the amateur historian and philosopher as well as the garden-lover.
Last revised June, 2004 To find out more about Mary Soderstrom
Dr. Peter H. RavenDirector of the Missouri Botanical Gardens.
"A splendid work that traces in detail in a way that is both historically and botanically interesting the diverse ways in which botanical gardens have developed at different periods of time and in different countries. Excellent research, and an outstanding writing style."
