Demographic: former republic of Yugoslavia, Bosnia and Herzegovina dominated by the Dinaric range of mountains, Bosnia is in the west central region of former Yugoslavia.
The climate ranges from humid summers to harsh winters.
Social and historical information about Bosnians:
Bosnia and its companion Herzegovina was part of the Roman province of Illyria and was used for its natural resources such as minerals. Bosnia was settled by the Slavs during their great migration and then was Christianized in the 9th and 10th centuries and this remained the religion until the advent of Islam.
Moving on to World War I, Bosnia ignited the spark that started the war
when the Bosnian Serb, Gavrilo Princip shot Archduke Ferdinand in Sarajevo
in 1914. Yugoslavia suffered greatly in World War I because many of their men were drafted to fight in the war. After the war, Bosnia was joined

THE NATIONAL MUSEUM OF BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
    Founding of the Museum:
The National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina was founded in 1888 and is the oldest among the modern cultural and scientific institutions of Western type in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A line of historical events influenced its establishment. A number of individuals and groups had for a long time prior to its founding emphasized the need for such an institution. The first idea of founding of the museum dates back to 1850. However, nearly four decades passed from the idea to its realization. Two empires ruled over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the meantime - the Ottoman rule gave way to the Austro-Hungarian one.
Since the premises that originally hosted the Museum soon became too small and inconvenient, construction of a new building was initiated in 1908. It was decided that the new museum facilities would comprise of a complex of buildings housing all the existing collections in separate sections. The construction was completed in 1913 and the Museum was open for public on October 4th of the same year. It is in this museum complex that had for a long time been the only such specified-purpose museum building constructed on the territory of former Yugoslavia that the National Museum still works today.

An insult to New York and London Beth Kampschror I knew something was going down Tuesday night in Sarajevo, but didn't find out the magnitude of it until my boyfriend and I tried to order a pizza. It was about ten at night. We'd been watching the news coverage about what had happened in Banja Luka the day before—several thousand Serb rioters had caused massive chaos at a ceremony marking the rebuilding of the Ferhadija Mosque in the town. Banja Luka authorities had recently, reluctantly, agreed to let a new mosque be built where the old one had stood for four centuries before it was destroyed by Serbs in 1993. The international community praised the decision, saying it would allow "multi-ethnicity" to reign in Banja Luka once again. But thousands of rioters created a hailstorm of softball-sized stones, sending international officials and Muslim guests bussed in for the ceremony fleeing. BH-TV showed elderly Muslim men hunched on the ground, bleeding. Rioters lit the seven buses that had brought the Muslims on fire, sending huge pillars of thick black smoke into the sky. About 20 Serbs scaled the walls of the Islamic Community Center and tore down the Muslim flag, burned it and flew a Serb flag in its place. The police stood and watched. Nearly 300 Muslims and international officials crowded into the Islamic Center for refuge, and stayed there for six hours until they were finally evacuated by Republika Srpska police.

There are two apple trees in the small garden and hens scratching in a wire coop. It's next to a low white-washed house built on the side of a hill and from the edge of the vegetable bed you can see a jumble of red tiled roofs, the village of Feketic with its skyline dominated by two huge churches. The dry earth is planted with spring onions, peas and parsley. Dogs are barking and cocks are crowing.
It's a village garden like tens of thousands of others in northern Serbia except for one thing: under the apple trees, paintings have been set on simple easels of long sticks lashed together. The canvases are covered with images of violence, intricately painted figures and animals, the dead and the dying in landscapes of burning red. Pero Mandic, who painted them, stands by. 'Now you see why I became an artist,' he says.
