  • On December 4, 2001, the U.S. and Bolivia signed a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to impose import restrictions on Pre-Columbian archaeological artifacts and Colonial and Republican ethnological materials.
On March 14, 1989, the U.S. placed emergency import restrictions on antique Aymara textiles from Coroma. On May 5, 1993, the emergency import restriction was extended for an additional three years. The restriction has expired, but other laws may be applicable in their recovery should there be future unauthorized movement of these textiles into the United States.

« Bolivia entranceway to Cusco »
It is the result of our 12 years of experience in the Andes, in permanent contact with the native people of the area. It is also the only truly coherent trip with an ancestral vision of the Andean world and its geographic, cultural and energetic unity. We place within your reach the most homogeneous and best consolidated touristic concept ever designed around the sacred lands of Lake Titikaka...
  • Full-day to 3-day tours from La Paz to Puno en route to Cusco.
  • 2-day and 3-day tours around Lake Titikaka.
  • All inclusive programs (7 days up) from La Paz to Cusco-Machupicchu.
  • Specially adapted versions for hikers.

Genesis de la Cultura Andina implies :
  • Everything Aymara, the cultural origin of the Inkas, enriched by the Kallawaya culture. In the Aymara culture the Ayllu (community system) emerges and is made evident as the foundation of the socioeconomic organization of the Inka civilization.
  • Tiwanaku, as solid ancient testimony of what is Aymara, and the Yatiri (wiseman and spiritual leader) as its live, magic and vibrant testimony.

ANCESTRY: RELIGION, DEATH AND CULTURE
Master of Fine Arts Show, Spring 1994
University of California, San Diego
by Belinda Di Leo
The paintings in Ancestry: Religion, Death and Culture document my own native culture of Central Appalachia. The work portrays a sense of place and character, as well as spiritual conviction, all reinforced by a repetition of visual imagery. Through the juxtaposition of a variety of images, the paintings explore the interrelationship between religion and the inevitability of death. In this series of work, I began a visual exploration of Appalachian culture with paintings of the self-supportive farm in southwestern Virginia. The farm originally came into my family as a portion of a Revolutionary War Grant. Several hundred acres had been divided with each generation. As a result, neighbors within the local farming community had descended from common ancestry.
Part I: Appalachian Imagery
The Place of the Ancestors, O/C 4' x 5', 1993 The landscape is a view from the hillside where these ancestors are buried. The scene is of life: the vegetable garden, rolls of hay, and weathered buildings for the raising of livestock. For the ancestors, continuity was through their descendants whose existence was in turn sustained by the land. Family Cemetery O/C 42" x 42" 1993 To me, the land was a sacred place. There, I could form a relationship with people not physically alive, but whose presence could be felt nevertheless. Having this connection to family history reinforced the knowledge that my own existence was merely a link between past and future. I was reminded that the choices I make will effect the lives of people who will never know me. In Family Cemetery, one sees the image of a gravestone marking an ancestral burial site. Across the top of the painting I have added "One day I will be one of the ancestors."
