Boa Constrictors I have been breeding common boa constrictors since 1985 and my breeders represent the fifth and sixth generation decendents from my first snake that my brother and I purchased when I was 10 years old in 1973. In 1995 I purchased a high pink female from Lloyd Lemke and this female increased the color of my stock making them look like the Pastel line that originated from Jeff Ronne. In 1999 I produced a litter of hypomelanistic boas by utilizing a breeding loan male from a friend. In 2002 I got my first litter from a F1 to F1 hypo cross that potentially contains one or more F2 dominant super hypos. Additionally I bred my high pink line with my F1 hypo male and produced some amazingly clean hypos with great colors. high pinks hypos Boas Home This is one of the best hypo boas I have produced. She was born in 2003 from a F1 hypo bred to an F1 hypo.

Care Of Pythons And Boa Constrictors In Captivity
Introduction:
Housing:
Being a responsible snake owner starts with an escape proof enclosure. Stacking books on top of the vivarium lid is not adequate and is asking for the animal to escape. An enclosure with the sliding top or front or a hinged lid and locking mechanism is necessary for housing snakes. The size of the enclosure is relative to the size of the snake. Keep in mind that most pythons and boas grow rather quickly and require substantial facilities. Buy or build an appropriate enclosure that has a locking mechanism and prevents escape. The ground material or substrate should be something that is easily replaced or cleaned. Newspaper is often ideal but for a more attractive cage the use of indoor/outdoor carpeting will also work. Hiding material and decorations should also be simple and easy to remove for cleaning such as pieces of wood, cork board, and clay pots. A shallow dish of fresh water is supplied for drinking and should be of sufficient size for the snake to soak in as an aid to thermoregulation and shedding. When the snake is of sufficient size the bathtub can be used as a soak pit once or twice weekly. Misting with a water bottle is also enjoyed by many snakes. Clean the cage and water dish as needed but at least on a weekly basis.

Zeppelin's Lair Orion's Home Cleopatra's Page Lennon There are a lot of people who like and dislike snakes. I just so happen to be a woman who likes snakes. I just thought here I'd provide you with some information about snakes and places to look for more information. One important thing people have to do who *think* they may want to own a snake is research! Very important!! How do you take care of snakes? You have to take a lot of things into consideration:
1. How long do you want to own one? Snakes have a longer life span than your average dog or cat. In fact some have lived up to 40 yrs. So you are talking about a commitment for a long time. 2. What kind of snake do I want? A boa constrictor? A Royal (ball) python? Corn snakes? There are many species to choose from and many varieties in each species. 3. Where am I going to put it? Do you have room for a 10-15 ft boa constrictor or are you better off having a 5ft ball python or a 4ft corn snake? 4. Important! Why do you want a snake?

HOME A word from Alan Bosch BALL PYTHONS BOAS ... MESSAGE BOARD Boa Constrictor Care Sheet This care sheet is designed as a very general guideline for most Boa Constrictors. Specific books covering your particular species can be found at the following links The Columbian Boa constrictor, Boa constrictor imperator, or BCI, is the most common boa species raised in captivity and is highly recommended for the beginning herpetologist ( someone who studies reptiles and amphibians ). This species is an excellent choice for a number of reasons including; moderate adult size (10’ to 12”), long lived,, gentle, beautiful and it has simple habitat and feeding requirements. These traits are most applicable for baby boas, ESPECIALLY babies that were conceived and born in captivity under very controlled conditions.
HABITAT REQUIREMENTS
The first task when choosing an animal is to research the animal's needs. The first need is habitat. Fortunately the BCI’s needs are simple. A standard 20 gallon long aquarium, a screen top, an UNDERTANK heat pad ( NO heat rocks, PLEASE!!) secured to one end of the underside of the tank, suitable substrate (newspaper is preferred but shredded aspen is also very good, NO pine or cedar shavings) a plastic hide box and a

BOA CONSTRICTOR CARE SHEET In General Boas are a great snake to have in your collection. However serious thought must be given to the fact that the cute little fella you first handle will reach an adult size of 8 feet plus and require a large vivarium and regular feeding of large frozen rats and even rabbits. As well as the obvious feeding costs, the costs of heating and lighting your vivarium should be taken into consideration, and even those costly vet bills should your boa fall ill - hopefully this of course will not happen. However, if you do make an intelligent decision to acquire a boa, they make great pets and will add to the quality of your life, hopefully in the same way that they have added to mine. Size and Gowth Newborn boa constrictors usually range from 14 - 22 inches in length. With the average adult size being an average 8 feet in length. This is quite a general estimation of sizes, adult female boas tend to be longer, reaching maybe 10 feet with the males generally 1 - 2 feet shorter and not as thickly muscled. The ulimate size that your boas will reach will depend on a number of factors, primarily genetics, vivarium size, temperature and the amount of food eaten by your boa.

Does your classroom have any pets? Would you have any problems watching a puppy being fed to a snake? That's not something every kid can handle but it didn't seem to stop one teacher. A biology teacher in Kansas keeps two boa constrictors in his classroom. Sometimes he feeds them during class so students can see how they eat. He took it too far when he planned on feeding them three puppies . It doesn't make a difference that the puppies were unwanted. They had been donated by a school board member who operates a shelter where animals are put to sleep. Matthew Parton, the teacher, certainly wasn't being sensitive when it came to his students. Some students can't handle watching snakes eat rats and mice . Watching an animal that's normally considered a pet be devoured by a snake is asking too much from students. If it's during class time, do the kids have the option of not watching the eating process? There's a campaign to have Matthew fired, which may be a little harsh. Matthew needs to keep away from pets and stick to his snake's normal diet. Unless you're in China, puppies aren't part of the food chain. Hey, my name is Alicia and I am a student in Kentucky. My class and I visited this Web site and clicked on "Puppies fed to boa constrictor," and I almost had a heart attack. First, that is absolutely pathetic for that kind of news to even be revealed over the internet. Those puppies were innocent and should not have been fed to anything when they are so helpless and harmless. A snake should be fed rats or something that it is actually supposed to be fed, not puppies that are supposed to have homes, families, and love just like any human would want or need. I think that that teacher should be sued and fired. What kind of school would want to have a reputation like that? What school would allow something this disturbing to go on?

This dominant trait has many breeding possibilities. We should have some arabesque albino boas from normal albino boas and from our striped line albino's. Albino Argentine x Columbian Boas Price: $1,000-$1,500 each They are very much like argentine boas in appearance and actions. If you like argentine boas you will lover this albino. Some of these look like coral albino boas. Were not sure if the coral trait showing up in these boas is genetic or not at this time. Beware of people selling these crosses as true genetic coral albino boas. I'm aware of someone last year selling my crosses to people as coral albino boas for $2,000 and up. These are very nice looking crosses and may be genetic but should not have been represented as pure columbian genetic coral albino boas. We are going to raise the price on some of the outstanding possible coral crosses to $1,500 each. All others will still be $1,000 each. Albino Boas Price: $1,000-$1,250 each

Colombian Boas Boa Constrictor imperator or Boa Constrictor constrictor ? I believe all Colombian Boas are constrictor constrictor . This is a controversial opinion I know but it is based on the legitimate original descriptions of the various subspecies and not on any opinions written or spoken. Of course the conclusions I come to are my opinion but this is the only conclusion I can come to based on the facts written in the original descriptions. Colombian Boas, commonly referred to as Colombian Red Tails are not Boa constrictor constrictor or Boa constrictor imperator because anyone says they are or are not. They are not one or the other because I say so. They are not one or the other because any other breeder says so. They are not one or the other because any taxonomist says so. They are not one or the other because any herp writer says so. They are not Boa constrictor constrictor or Boa constrictor imperator because of where they originate either. An all too little known FACT is that neither of the original descriptions of constrictor or imperator ever refers to any Boa constrictor found in Colombia. They are completely silent on any of the specifics of Boa Constrictors found in Colombia. So anything that anyone says about the particular subspecies these animals belong to is strictly speculation based on absolutely nothing factual unless they specifically reference the original writing for the two descriptions mentioned earlier to scientifically categorize Colombian Boas into either

Green Tree Boa kill animals by squeezing them with their body and then search for the head to swallow their victim whole, headfirst. They consume birds, rats, lizards, chickens, and basically anything that is a vertebrate. They are even able to swallow animals larger than their heads because the bones in their jaw and mouth are able to stretch apart. Since they are able to eat so much at once, they can often go months without consuming another animal. Female boas do not lay eggs, but rather give birth to live young. An Escaped Boa Constrictor! mail01.html
Mike has a REAL snake problem....
Dear Sir,
Two years ago, my pet boa constrictor escaped from its tank when my young cousin unlocked it during my wedding reception. It was spotted in my landlady's wall 2 months later, but then it was never seen again. the snake was only a year old at the time, and about 2 1/2 feet long. What are the chances that it's still alive, or still in the house? We just moved out of the apartment, and into our first house. The landlady is taking me to court over the snake, (for $3,000 in exterminating fees), and I am trying to find out as much as I can on exterminating costs for snakes. One guy said he would drill a bunch of holes in the base of the walls between the studs and inject poison gas to kill him at a cost of around $150.00. Another guy told me that it would be a waste of time and money if the snake hasn't seen, because he probably left the building.
If you could find the time to send a letter back to me with your opinion or solution, it would be greatly appreciated.
