Fabulous Thunderbirds For more than 25 years, The Fabulous Thunderbirds have been the quintessential American band. The group's distinctive and powerful sound, influenced by a diversity of musical styles, manifested itself into a unique musical hybrid via such barn-burners as " Tuff Enuff " and " Wrap It Up ." Co-founder Kim Wilson, the sole original member, still spearheads the group as it evolves into its newest incarnation. "We started as a straight blues band," vocalist and harmonica player Wilson says. "We now incorporate a mixture of a lot of different styles. We're an American music band and we're much higher energy than we were before." In addition to Wilson, the current Thunderbirds line-up features Kid Ramos on guitar, Willy Campbell on bass (both formerly of the James Harmon Band), Richard Innes on drums (from the Hollywood Fats Band) and Gene Taylor on keyboards (from The Blasters). "To be in the T-Birds, you need to understand the different styles of music and different ways of playing," Wilson comments. "You have to be willing to adopt a more contemporary style. The guys we have now are able to do that. Kid Ramos is a blues player who plays rock 'n' roll. He's got a lot of energy."

"Providing Excellence in Entertainment Since 1970" Kenny Wayne Shepherd "Every time you play," says Kenny Wayne Shepherd , "it's important. It doesn't matter if it's a little club somewhere or a big arena with thousands of people – you make a connection. Blues is about real life, real feelings. You can make them feel it." With the release of " Ledbetter Heights ," his debut Revolution Records (formerly Giant Records) album, Kenny quickly climbed the charts. He had three top 10 single tracks on the rock charts along with holding the #1 position on Billboard Magazine's Blues Chart for more than five months. Kenny Wayne Shepherd was exposed to a variety of music at an early age, and his father's career in radio offered access to entertainers from the rock, pop and country worlds. But the spark that would become a burning passion was struck by legendary bluesman, Stevie Ray Vaughan. "When I was about seven," Kenny recalls, "we went to hear Stevie. He lifted me up on his amp case on the side of the stage, and I sat there the whole time, watching him play. I was hooked, man. I started asking my dad for a guitar right after that, and I finally got one about six months later."

page: Blues music as it flourished in the 1920s was women's music. Although it grew out of African-American sprituals and a tradition of itinerant male singers in the rural South, female performers defined and popularized the genre, originally through performances on the black vaudeville and minstrel show circuits. Most black performers traveled on the Theater Owner's Booking Association, or T.O.B.A. circuit, establishing an avid loyal following with black audiences and building up solid reputations before the advent of recording. Although most of these theaters were in the South, New York and especially Chicago became essential centers for blues performers and their audiences. Sponsor Message.
Early Recordings In 1920 Mamie Smith became the first woman of color to make an audio recording; the first vocal blues record was her "Crazy Blues." Written by Perry Bradford, it was a tremendous success on the Okeh label, selling more than 100,000 copies in its first month of release and officially ushering in the era of "race records"records marketed expressly at black consumersand the popularity of the Blues. Publishers rushed to capitalize on this previously unconsidered market, quickly employing popular club singers such as Alberta Hunter to make recordings to meet the burgeoning demand for Blues music. Singers were paid a one-time fee for each usable "side" and the early artists were generally chosen for their vocal appeal to a crossover audience.

    Blues
Blues is a vocal and instrumental musical form originally derived from African American work songs . A form of American roots music , blues has been a major influence on later American popular music , finding expression in jazz , big bands, rhythm and blues rock and roll and country music as well as conventional pop songs and even modern classical music Early forms of the blues evolved in the Southern United States in the late and early centuries, using simple instruments such as acoustic guitar piano , and harmonica . Songs came with many different forms of structure, although the twelve or eight bar structure based on tonic subdominant and dominant chords became predominant. Melodically, blues music is marked by the use of the lowered third and dominant seventh (so called blue notes) of the associated major scale . The blues scale is frequently used in non-blues musical forms. What is now recognizable as the standard 12 bar blues form with A A1 B form is documented from oral history and sheet music as appearing in African-American communities throughout the region along the lower Mississippi River during the decade of (and performed by white bands in New Orleans at least since W.C. Handy
