Biodiversity and Ecological Processes Research Group
New Studentship Available This new research Group brings together members of the School whose main interests are the study of ecological and evolutionary processes in animals, plants and microbes. Our aim is to understand the ecological and genetic consequences of environmental change on local and global biodiversity at the individual, population and community level. Environmental change can have profound effects on biodiversity over both the short and long term. In our rapidly changing world, short term stress caused by human mediated habitat loss, pollution and climate change pose a special challenge to today's biologists. In Cardiff our approach is to focus on processes and prediction, combining ecological and molecular approaches, and we seek to unify these themes from contrasting groups of organisms. Longer term change relates to fundamental evolutionary processes, including ongoing adaptation and species diversification. These result in subtle changes to ecosystem structure and function over time. We examine these processes with a view to understanding, conserving and managing the resulting diversity.

Coccolithophorid evolutionary biodiversity and ecology network - CODENET
CODENET was an EC TMR Research Network funded from 1998 to 2001. The site was developed as a resource for the project, and is archived here as a guide to the research carried out. This page provides an index to the site This site is Hosted by The Natural History Museum, London
      NETWORK DETAILS
This site provides quite extensive details on the project, but most of it is primarily intended for use by members of the project, so people without an active research interest in the field may find it less than useful.
      • Summary - short introduction for non-scientists
      • Details - concise overview for interested scientists (based on the CODENET poster)
      • Participants - list of participants with email addresses, notes on the CODENET mailing list - or take a look at the lovely people Contact details - addresses, email and phone numbers for scientists-in-chief of each team Ways to participate - some ideas for how you could participate in the project Bibliography - publications from the project Final report - text figures (downloadable PDFs) Deliverables (not in original proposal)
