Hebrew Language Resources
Here I provide tools and resources to aid in the learning of the Hebrew language. If you would like to see new software created, resources added, or features included please e-mail me at s a n d o v a l@netwaysglobal.com . If you have any tips or suggestions to help me and others better learn this fascinating language please send them as well. For me the study of Hebrew provides great insights into theology a most important topic for all of us. For those interested in discussing theology you will find that while I love to learn any truth, I full expect you to be honest and I will not tolerate defamation and bigotry. My faith is 100% Biblical and has upheld that standard perfectly. In the past detractors (i.e. "anti-Mormons") that could not handle the impact of the Lord's promise in Luke 21:15 have turned to character defamation, dishonesty, and persecution not unlike the behavior of the Pharisees towards the Lord Jesus Christ, during His mortal ministry. My message will always be one of invitation much like the Lord's invitation to "Come and See". True "Christians", and faithful Jews will not turn to deceit to make their point(s). True disciples of the Messiah will seek edification and the Spirit of the Lord in all that they do. My rule in this regard is to honor the thirteenth Article of Faith as taught by the Prophet Joseph Smith: "We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things."

169. Why Biblical Counseling Is Unbiblical
John H. Coe's reply to Jay Adams' and the Bobgans' affirmation of the Bible as the sole source for authority concerning human nature, values and prescriptions for healthy living.

Why Biblical Counseling is Unbiblical
CAPS 1991
John H. Coe

A number of Christians both lay and clergy are still uncomfortable with and even hostile to the notion of Christian psychology or counseling. Individuals such as Jay Adams (1973, 1976), Dave Hunt (1987) and the Bobgans (1986) have successfully instilled a distrust within large sections of evangelicalism, particularly the more conservative wing, concerning any attempt to address the human moral and spiritual condition from sources outside the biblical text. Instead, they promote and defend what they call the Biblical counseling" position (which I shall refer to as the BC position, cf. Adams, 1973, p.15). This approach to counseling affirms the Bible as its sole source for authority concerning human nature, values and prescriptions for healthy living.
1 Portions of this paper were read at the 1991 Evangelical Theological Society (ETS) Far West Region Annual Meeting.
The BC position raises a number of important and deep issues concerning the nature of authority in the scriptures and the social sciences concerning their ability to address values and the human condition. I will explore these issues from the perspective of the scriptures themselves, particularly the OT Wisdom literature, and argue contrary to the BC position for the legitimacy of a science of values which discovers God's moral wisdom in nature, particularly in human phenomena Consequently, I hope to show that a developed OT Wisdom theology provides a biblical framework, mandate and justification for the work of the Christian psychologist. If successful, this will provide the psychologically informed theologian, pastor, counselor as well as psychologist a common ground in the bible from which to speak psychology gently and wisely into an otherwise resistant church. As the OT sage says, the tongue of the wise seeks to make words of knowledge acceptable

171. A Biblical Perspective On Abortion
Asserts that the Bible establishes that God recognizes a person even before birth.
http://www.crta.org/social/abortion.html
A Biblical Perspective on Abortion
by Jonathan Hall Barlow Abortion is perhaps the most highly debated social issue of our time. With more than 27 million abortions that have occurred in the period from 1973 to 1991, almost everyone has an opinion on the issue. The abortion issue has been used as a symbol of independence in the feminist movement, and has been clouded by many other issues such as rape and incest. However, in order to obtain a Biblical view of abortion, one must rake away the muck which obscures the main questions about abortion, and concentrate on the issue's essence. The primary point of conflict in the entire abortion debate is the question of when life begins. If indeed life begins in the womb, then no one could disagree that the fetus (latin for `little one') is a human being, and is subject to the rights (God's laws concerning humanity) which befit a human being. First, the Bible establishes that God recognizes a person even before he or she is born. "Before I was born the Lord called me" (Isaiah 49:1). Exodus 21:22-23 describes a situation in which a man hits a pregnant woman and causes her to give birth prematurely. If there is

After the settlement, the Hebrew clan-system changed somewhat and slowly degenerated till the time of the monarchy, when it fell into the background and became absorbed by the more complicated system of national and monarchical government. (2) Marriage and the constitution of the family Sadiqa-marriage , was undoubtedly practised by the ancient Hebrews as positive indications of its existence are found in the Book of Judges and particularly in the cases of Jerubbaal, Samson, and others. The fact itself that Hebrew harlots who received into their tents or dwellings men of other clans, and who bore children to their own clan, were not looked upon with much disfavour is a sure indication of the existence of the Sadiqa-marriage type among the Hebrews. One thing is certain, however, that no matter how similar the marriage customs of the ancient Hebrews may have been to those of the early Arabs, the marriage tie among the former was much stronger than, and never as loose as, among the latter. Another form of Hebrew marriage was the so-called levirate type (from the Lat.

We might be the fat kid, as some have pointed out. We might have trouble carrying our back pack all the way up the big hill on our way home from school. We might even sit down half way up, and lean back against whatever it is strapped on behind us. Our name might even be Beth-Beth. But there is something about us. Something that makes us stronger than the rest. You might not think so when you see us, or when you hear us breathe, but the truth is that we don’t care what you think or say about us. We’re like rubber you’re, like glue. It’s an internal sort of stronger. The word is fortitude. Other kids might kick the ball farther, or get on base more than once a quarter in P.E. Other kids this, other kids that. Other kids aren’t us. Other kids don’t see the world through our eyes, especially when we’re wearing our bear mask. They don’t know the strength we feel when we wear it. It is simple enough. Brown. Lumpy. Paper mache. All held on with the heavy rubber band off an old punching balloon. The eyes are not set quite as wide as ours. They are not the same size. But when we look through them, and the rubber band pinches and pulls hair on the back of our head, then we can hear ourselves think. We walk up to the faster kids, the skinnier kids on the playground, breathing a new breath, a louder one. They know what happens when Beth-Beth wears the bear mask. We dig it out of our backpack and strap it on our head. Now, with a sweatier face, we are ready for the rest of the hill and the journey home. Home. We will fill a tall glass with Oreos, pour milk over the top and go fishing with a spoon. At home, we don’t need our mask.

177. CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Elijah
Commentary on the biblical prophet from the traditional Catholic perspective.
http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05381b.htm
Home Encyclopedia Summa Fathers ... E > Elijah A B C D ... Z
Elias
Elias (Heb. 'Eliahu , "Yahveh is God "; also called Elijah). Of Elias's origin nothing is known, except that he was a Thesbite; whether from Thisbe of Nephtali (Tob., i, 2, Gr.) or from Thesbon of Galaad, as our texts have it, is not absolutely certain, although most scholars, on the authority of the Septuagint and of Josephus , prefer the latter opinion. Some Jewish legends, echoed in a few Christian God , follow him; but if Baal, then follow him" (xviii, 21). He then commanded the heathen prophets to invoke their deity; he himself would "call on the name of his Lord"; and the God who would answer by fire, "let him be God " (24). An altar had been erected by the Baal-worshippers and the victim laid upon it; but their cries, their wild dances and mad self-mutilations all the day long availed nothing: "There was no voice heard, nor did any one answer, nor regard them as they prayed" (29). Elias, having repaired the ruined altar of Yahveh which stood there, prepared thereon his sacrifice; then, when it was time to offer the evening oblation, as he was praying earnestly, "the fire of the Lord fell, and consumed the holocaust, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench" (38). The issue was fought and won. The people, maddened by the success, fell at Elias's command on the pagan prophets and slew them at the brook Cison. That same evening the drought ceased with a heavy downpour of rain, in the midst of which the strange prophet ran before Achab to the entrance of Jezrael.

Prophet Nuh He was Noah Ibn Lamik, Ibn Mitoshilkh, Ibn Enoch, Ibn yard, Ibn Mahlabeel, Ibn Qinan, Ibn Anoush, Ibn Seth, Ibn Adam the Father of Mankind (PBUH). According to the history of the People of the Book, (refers to the Jews, and Christians, so called by Allah because they received Revealed Books, Taurat, Zabur and Injeel. These names are translated 'Torah, Psalms, and Gospels' respectively, but the books that are extent are corrupt. Of the Revealed Books, ONLY the Quran remains exactly as it was revealed). the period between the birth of Noah and the death of Adam was 146 years. (According to Genesis 5 (new Revised Standard Version), Noah was born one hundred and twenty six years after the death of Adam. Ibn Abbas narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "The period between Adam and Noah was ten centuries." (Sahih Bukhari, Noah was born 1056 years after Adam's creation (or after he left the Garden of Eden). Thus, this hadith does not contradict the previous statement from the People of the Book as it may first appear to do. The reader should keep in mind, however that any statement or narratives taken from the People of the Book are not necessarily credible. This was taken from Genesis 5). For many generations Noah's people had been worshipping statues that they called gods. They believed that these gods would bring them good, protect them from evil and provide all their needs. They gave their idols names such as Waddan, Suwa'an, Yaghutha, Ya'auga, and Nasran, (These idols represented, respectively, manly power; mutability, beauty; brute strength, swiftness, sharp sight, insight) according to the power they thought these gods possessed.

179. Bible Study - Daniel
biblical biography of the prophet, with references to chapter and verse.
http://www.execulink.com/~wblank/20000213.htm
Daniel
Daniel, from the Hebrew word meaning God is my Judge , is one of the major prophets of the Old Testament (see Old Testament Fact File and of the New Testament (see New Testament Fact File ) since much of the prophecy given to him corresponds to that given to the apostle John in the Book of Revelation, and for our time now - Jesus Christ Himself specifically referred to events recorded in The Book of Daniel (Matthew 24:15) that would occur just prior to The Return Of Jesus Christ Daniel was of royal lineage (Daniel 1:3), probably born in or near Jerusalem about 622 B.C. during the reign of Josiah (see Kings of Israel and Judah ). In the third year of the reign of King Jehoiakim, about 605 B.C., the Babylonians under King Nebuchadnezzar , besieged Jerusalem, looted the original Temple that had been built by Solomon (the complete devastation would come later, about 586 B.C.), and took a number of the people of Judah away into exile in Babylon. Among them was the teenage Daniel (Daniel 1:1-3). Despite being a prisoner-exile, Daniel's living conditions in Babylon were likely at least as good as they had been back home. He was selected, along with a number of others, to be trained for service in the palace of Nebuchadnezzar (Daniel 1:3-7). There, he distinguished himself with wisdom and ability (Daniel 1:19).

No, I'm not a Mormon. Now that we've eliminated that distraction, let me ask you a question or two. Why did you click on this link? Could it be because after reading the Bible all these years you've just never been able to figure out why God never condemned polygamy? You know that most everyone says that it's sinful except God. So when you saw the title of this link you thought, "there's actually someone who thinks polygamy is not sinful? I wonder how they might defend this position from the Bible?" Exegetically it's not hard to prove from the O.T. and N.T. that polygamy was and still is a valid form of marriage and is not sinful. It's really a matter of whether we want to follow tradition or God's Word on this issue. 1) THE O.T. AND THE LAW ON POLYGAMY
