It is located Southeast of Mexico and north of Guatemala on the Caribbean Sea. Belize was formerly called British Honduras. The oldest records found to date in England indicates that Scouting in Belize started in 1911 with a census of two troops, twenty Scouts. The following year numbers were one troop, three Scouters and twenty-four Scouts, a total of twenty-seven, The Belize Branch of The Scout Association was officially registered in 1917 with a census of eight Scouters, one hundred thirteen Scouts and fifty-nine Cubs, a total membership of one hundred and eighty. However, according to a research undertaken by Hr. Leopold Flowers, former Executive Commissioner of the Belize Scout Association and Mr. William Faux, presently Deputy Chief Commissioner, Scouting in Belize was started in 1910 when one Mr, Henry Lonqsworth of St. John's Cathedral established a troop there. In 1987, Belize joined the World Organization (WOSM). In 1915, Robin 0. Phillips, an American Scout of about 17 years of age is said to have invested 20 young men as Scouts. This took place at Robin's home, then situated at the corner of Wilson Street and Barrack Road. When these Scouts were considered well trained, Robin's father approached Governor William Hart Bennett to seek assistance and support for the Scout Movement. Governor Bennett then selected Mr. George Grabbam, then manager of the Belize Estate and Produce Company Ltd. Mr. Grabham in turn appointed as Scout Masters to assist his Mr. Phillip Ely, one Mr. Wexham and Mr. Paul Shephard Berry, then the superintendent of the Belize Wireless Station. The movement flourished for about three to four years, then died when Mr. Grabham left Belize.

    History
The first inhabitants of Belize were the Maya and Carib Indians. Belize was a part of the great Mayan empire which stretched through Guatemala , southern Mexico and parts of Honduras and El Salvador. Though the history of the Maya can be traced back for over 4000 years, the Classic Period of more advanced Mayan civilization began around the 3rd century AD and reached its height between the 6th and 8th centuries. By the 14th century it was in serious decline. When the Spanish arrived in the 16th century, many of the Mayan cities were deserted. The Spanish considered Belize a backwater suitable only for cutting logwood to be used for dye. Although the Spanish 'owned' Belize, they did not rule it. The lack of effective government and the safety afforded by the reef attracted English and Scottish pirates during the 17th century. When piracy became passé, many of the pirates began working in the logging trade. Belize was British by tradition and sympathy by the time that a British force routed the Spanish armada off St George's Caye in 1798, delivering Belize from Spanish rule. In 1862, while the USA was embroiled in its Civil War and unable to enforce the terms of the Monroe Doctrine, Great Britain declared Belize to be the colony of British Honduras.

B.C. The Mayas first settled in the area some 200 to 300 years later, and a few ancient Maya cities still survive. The region was probably traversed by on his way to Honduras, but the Spanish made no attempt at colonization. British buccaneers, who used the cays to prey on Spanish shipping, founded Belize (early 17th cent.). British settlers from Jamaica began the exploitation of timber. Spain contested British possession several times until defeated at the last battle of St. George's Cay (1798). From 1862 to 1884 the colony was administered by the governor of Jamaica. History of Belize
The Maya civilization rose in what is now Belize between the 16th century BC and the 4th century AD. The Classic period sites flourished until about AD, and suggest that the area had a much denser population in that period than it has had since. Post-Classic sites continued until contact with Europeans. Belize contains the archeological remains of cities such as Altun Ha Caracol , Cahal Pech, Lamanai, Lubaantun Nim Li Punit , Santa Rita, and Xunantunich European contact began in when Christopher Columbus sailed along the coast. The first recorded European settlement was begun by shipwrecked English seamen in . Over the next 150 years, more English settlements were established. This period also was marked by piracy , indiscriminate logging , and sporadic attacks by Indians and neighboring Spanish settlements. The Spanish Empire granted the United Kingdom rights to establish logging camps in the area, but not to set up a colony on this land, which the Spanish Crown wished to maintain theoretical sovereignty over. While not an official British colony, British use and occupation of the area increased. In Britain and Spain went to war, and the Spanish Governor-General of

Belize, once part of the ancient Maya empire, has developed into a very popular tourism destination and cruise ship port-of-call.
Formerly known as British Honduras - a British Crown colony - Belize became totally independent in 1993.
Along its coastline, a lengthy group of coral islands form a barrier reef, second only in size to the Great Barrier Reef of Australia.
Major attractions of the reef include Ambergris Caye, the Blue Hole, Half Moon Caye National Monument, the Turneffe Islands, and the hundreds of exquisite offshore scuba diving sites.
In addition, the country is home to remnants of the Mayan culture, including the uniqueness of the Lamanai and Xunantunich sites.
Belize bursts with wildlife of all description. Dense rainforests cover most of the country, while the sharp-edged peaks of the Maya Mountains dominate the south central landscape
The climate is generally hot and humid, with seasonal rainfall heaviest, June through November.
