A1 Reptiles Bearded Dragon Care Sheet Make sure a shallow water dish is available at all times. Adult bearded dragons may be fed once daily. Their diet should be varied and may consist of crickets, madagascan hissing roaches, king mealworms (zophobas) and newborn mice. Vegetables and fruits should be offered twice weekly. The vegetables and fruits should be chopped up and mixed together as a salad. Fruits and vegetables may include kale, collards, carrots, mustard greens, apples and bananas. Vitamin and mineral supplements should be added to the salad mixture. All prey animals should be dusted with a high calcium supplement. During the breeding season it is very important that females be given a diet rich in calcium and vitamins to maintain good health following egg laying. A basking light should be provided at one end of the cage. The temperature at the basking area should reach 90 degrees F. There should also be a cooler area in the cage around 75 degrees F. Exposure to natural sunlight, whenever possible, is important. Make sure the enclosure you provide outside for your bearded dragon allows for good ventilation so that the animal is not overheated while being exposed to sunlight. You should also provide a shade area inside the enclosure. Ideally exposure to the sun should be three times weekly with a minimum of thirty minutes each exposure. Indoor enclosures should have a high quality full spectrum light. These full spectrum lights do not however, take the place of natural sunlight.

Care and Feeding of Iguanas By Christine Hancock Bearded Dragons and Uromastyx The bearded dragon and the uromastyx are recognized as wonderful pets due to their calm, easy to handle, domestic nature. Full grown, these lizards reach approximately one foot, making them a moderate and reasonable size. Both the bearded dragon and the uromastyx are colorful, and can be extremely impressive in a uniquely designed vivarium. These easy to care for animals are becoming one of the top selling lizards in today’s reptile trade. These reptiles are generally ground or rock dwellers, and dig deep tunnels in the wild. Long hot days and nights are spent keeping cool in these tunnels. Some of these reptiles like to climb, and bask in the sunlight on top of branches, fence posts, large rocks and wood. Diet
Bearded dragons and uromastyx eat both plant products and insects. Juvenile lizards should be fed crickets, mealworms, wax worms and other various insects at least 3-4 times weekly. Most juvenile lizards favor insects over plant matter. Adult diets include 60-75% of leafy greens, such as mustard greens, collard greens, kale, endive, and spinach. Twenty-five to 40 percent of the plant diet consists of frozen vegetables (peas, carrots, green beans, lima beans), grated carrots, squash, or other such vegetables. Adults should be offered fresh plant matter daily and live foods every 7-10 days. Bearded dragons and uromastyx obtain most of their water intake through the plant products they obtain. It is a good idea to mist them off daily, several times a day for juvenile’s, and soak them weekly. To soak these reptiles, place them in a shallow bowl of lukewarm water for about ten minutes. If you decide to leave a water bowl in the lizard’s cage, be sure to clean it well every few days to prevent bacterial and fungal growth.

They are extremely friendly and social lizards, and it is very unlikely that one will ever bite if unprovoked. Hatchlings are typically about 2 inches in length. Adult sizes vary between 10 inches and 2 feet. They will live for around 15 years if cared for properly. Bearded Dragons will explore by licking everything. Don't be afraid if they lick you - they're just seeing what you're all about. Set-Up: A minimum of a 20 gallon long tank should be used for a juvenile, and a minimum of a 50 gallon long tank should be used for an adult. Alfalfa pellets, corn cob bedding, newspaper, or reptile sand should be used for bedding. Do not use any type of humidity-holding bark such as pine or cypress - since the dragons come from the desert they are unable to tolerate humidity. I also do not recommend using aspen bark since it can cause mouth rot (a mouth infection caused by tiny punctures in the gums that dragons can get when they lick the bedding). They are arboreal lizards (they spend most of their time in trees) so plenty of branches and climbing rocks should be placed in the cage. A small water bowl should be placed at one end of the tank. A 1/2 log or other hiding spot should also be placed at the same end of the tank. A pegboard or screen top should be placed on the cage. Do not put plastic or poisonous plants in the tank with your Bearded Dragon! They will try to eat them.

Bearded Dragons are omnivorous and are best given a variety of foods for optimum health. These lizards enjoy eating and probably appreciate a variety of foods for that reason as well. Feeding Young Bearded Dragons Offer baby dragons small crickets every day. At this age, dragons can be a little delicate when it comes to food and animals fed too large an insect sometimes suddenly develop paralysis of the rear legs, twitching, and other problems, probably because of pressure on the spine. It is better to feed lots of small insects than a couple of large ones. A good measure of proper size is to imagine 2 crickets sitting side by side on the dragon's head. If they fit, that's the size you want. Once your dragon reaches about 8" he is far less delicate and you may feel free to feed him just about anything he can tackle. Baby dragons grow very fast and need to be able to eat as many insects as they want on a daily basis. <= THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THEIR HEALTH. You may be amazed at how much a little dragon can eat, but don't skimp on the insects!

Word: Word Starts with Ends with Definition Bearded dragons Scientific classification Scientific classification refers to how biologists group and categorize extinct and living species of organisms. Modern classification has its roots in the system of Carolus Linnaeus, who grouped species according to shared physical characteristics. These groupings have been revised since Linnaeus to improve consistency with the Darwinian principle of common descent. Molecular systematics, which uses Genomic DNA analysis has driven many recent revisions and is likely to continue to do so. Scientific classification belongs to the science of taxonomy or biological systematics.

Typically, they are multicellular in composition and capable of both locomotion and responding to their surroundings. Unlike plants, animals do not photosynthesize, instead consuming plants or other organisms to grow and sustain themselves. Most animals have a body plan that becomes fixed as they mature and, except in animals that metamorphose, is established early in their development from embryos. The scientific study of animals is called zoology.

The Hole Truth (and Nothing But the Truth)
The Hole Truth (and Nothing But the Truth) is a unit study based on Louis Sachar's book, Holes, winner of both the 1999 Newbery and National Book Awards. It is a book about miscarried justice, a family curse, a grim juvenile detention center, onions, and a dried-up lake bed of mysterious holes. It is funny, troubling, and touching. Care of the Bearded Dragon
(Pogona vitticeps)
Bearded Dragons are Agamid lizards native to Australia and New Guinea. Three are seven species of which the Central Bearded Dragon (Pogona Vitticeps) and Common Bearded Dragon (Pogona Barbata) are the most common pets. In the wild, they live in rocky, semi desert or in dry, open woodland. They are very adept climbers and are often seen basking on fence posts or Rocks. The "Beard" is this lizards ability to expand its flared-out its throat, when threatened, to scare predators. They are social animals and do well when housed with similar sized cage mates.
HOUSING
-Bearded dragons can be housed singly, in breeding pairs, or in groups with one male and two or more females. -Provide a terrarium size of at least 72 inches long by 16 inches wide by 17 inches high for a single adult dragon. PLEASE NOTE - All information in this caresheet has come from our personal experience. Many 'opinions', in many areas of care, vary from one person to another and can be controversial.... Please remember though, these are all opinions... and contained here are ours. Sources we found extremely useful when beginning our collection in Bearded dragons are - "The General Care and Maintenance of Bearded Dragons", written by Phillippe de Vosjoli and Robert Mailloux 1993.... and many knowledgable people willing to share their personal experiences.
General Description -
General Care - Bearded Dragons need little care, beyond daily maintenance, once they are established in/acclimated to their new environment. Care should certainly be taken to emulate their natural setting to reduce stress to the animal... As should a schedule be developed for lighting and feeding for the same purposes.
How do I know my dragon is healthy?

What size cage should I keep my dragon in?

What should I use on the bottom of the cage?

What about branches, rocks and other cage accessories?
...
Is it a he or a she? How can I be sure?

Selection - Selecting the animal to be your new pet is one of the most important steps toward success in maintaining bearded dragons. When purchasing a dragon online, it is basically done through an 'honor system'. The animal you receive should be robust appearing with ample fat stores at the base of its tail (generally it is possible to determine the overall health of all lizards by examining the base of the tail for fat stores). Beware of protruding bones at the base of the tail. Also, it should appear alert with both eyes wide open and attentive to its environment.

Bearded dragons have become one of the most popular pet lizards because they make a great kids pet or first time herper pet.
Bearded Dragon ( Pogona Vitticeps) - We are currently working with many different blood-lines and color morphs of bearded dragons... which will be divided into 3 seperate breeding cycles this coming year.
