Players move the ball by passing it or by dribbling it (bouncing it on the floor) while running. The object of the game is to score the most points by throwing the basketball through the hoop, also called a basket, scoring two points for each basket shot from the field. Three points are awarded for field goals made beyond a specified distance from the basket. In the US the standard court is 94-ft long and 54-ft wide, with a backboard at the center of each end of the court, with a metal hoop 10-ft from the floor attached to each backboard. The Defense Never Rests Defense wins championships. Just ask Kennesaw State. The Owls suffocated Southern Indiana's offensive flow in the second half and went on to claim its first national championship in men's basketball with a dominating victory over the Eagles Saturday in Bakersfield, Calif. USI held an early 10-2 lead in the game, but Kennesaw State followed with a 14-2 run that gave it the lead for good six minutes into play. Georgy Joseph got the Owls started offensively by scoring KSU's first 10 points, but the offensive star for Kennesaw State was Terrence Hill (pictured above), who scored 17 of his game-high 26 points in the second half as the Owls outscored the Eagles 54-35 in the second half. The other story came on the defensive end, where the Eagles shot just 36.8 percent for the game, were outrebounded by seven (USI had outrebounded teams by an average of eight per game on the season) and turned the ball over 24 times against the scrambling KSU defense, which the Owls turned into 29 points.
