History Of Volleyball http://www.Volleyball.ORG
In 1995, the sport of Volleyball was 100 years old! The sport originated in the United States, and is now just achieving the type of popularity in the U.S. that it has received on a global basis, where it ranks behind only soccer among participation sports. Today there are more than 46 million Americans who play volleyball. There are 800 million players worldwide who play Volleyball at least once a week. In William G. Morgan, an instructor at the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) in Holyoke, Mass., decided to blend elements of basketball, baseball, tennis, and handball to create a game for his classes of businessmen which would demand less physical contact than basketball. He created the game of Volleyball (at that time called mintonette). Morgan borrowed the net from tennis, and raised it 6 feet 6 inches above the floor, just above the average man's head. During a demonstration game, someone remarked to Morgan that the players seemed to be volleying the ball back and forth over the net, and perhaps "volleyball" would be a more descriptive name for the sport. Magic Johnson was as enthusiastic as the Dream Team's victories were emphatic.
The original Dream Team, the U.S. basketball team that won the gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, was a phenomenon on and off the court. It mattered not that it dominated the Olympic competition, beating its eight opponents by an average of 44 points. What was important was that the Dream Team, the first U.S. Olympic team to include NBA stars, gave fans a glimpse of basketball at its finest, and an entire world responded.

History of Cincinnati Basketball
Bearcat Basketball...a Proud History The University of Cincinnati stands among the nation's elite in college basketball. Six Final Four appearances, and back-to-back national championships, are accomplishments only a handful of programs can boast. In fact, UC is the 10th-winningest team in NCAA tournament history. The Bearcats have compiled a 37-20 record in NCAA play for a .649 percentage. Cincinnati's 1,449-836 record (.634), compiled over 102 seasons, places the school among the top 30 winningest programs. Since post-World War II, the beginning of modern day college basketball, UC has a 1,111-518 ledger (.682), an average of over 19 wins per year. The Bearcats have advanced to post-season play 29 times and have been conference champions in 28 seasons. UC's losses in tournament play have also been noteworthy. Cincinnati has been eliminated from the NCAA playoffs five times by teams which eventually won the title and lost once to the eventual champ in NIT competition.

ANCIENT ORIGINS US TEAM THAT MAKES HOPES OF GOLD A DREAM FOR THE REST
Little could Dr James Naismith, a Canadian, have realised when he nailed two peach baskets to a balcony to entertain students at the YMCA in 1891 that his inspiration would not only become a game played by 100 million people worldwide but provide some of the most lucrative pay packets in the world of sport. The US men's "dream teams" of 1992 and 1996 provided a fitting tribute to the good doctor but hardly to the Olympic ideal as multimillionaires such as Earvin "Magic" Johnson added gold medals to their golden fortunes. From the YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1892, the game spread rapidly around the globe. Today it enjoys a vast membership in 208 countries, though the US remains the dominant force in the game that it adopted as a competitive sport just three years after the good doctor's inspiration. The first professional league was formed in 1898 and basketball joined the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 just four years after the formation of the International basketball federation (Fiba).
