Herring's mother had previously said the 6-4 sophomore guard would not attend Baylor this year. But he began attending classes earlier this month and joined Baylor's off-season workout program Monday. New Baylor coach Scott Drew said Thursday that the NCAA had cleared Herring, who is attending school on a basketball scholarship this year. Herring was not immediately available for comment. A university investigative committee has said it found evidence that former coach Dave Bliss arranged illicit tuition payments to slain player Patrick Dennehy and another player and then tried to cover it up. The committee has not identified the other player. Herring's former high school coach, Jim Palano of Buffalo, told

Long troubled by knee problems, she grew frustrated with her inability to train hard. "Mentally, I was shot," she remembers. "Every time I worked hard and put something toward it, something happened. I got hurt and injured. I was in a knee brace." At the Big 8 Conference indoor meet in Lawrence, Kansas, she decided the time had come. Still lacking a qualifier for the NCAA Indoor, she took off the knee brace. "I just decided on my own I wasn't going to wear it," she says. She won the high jump competition, leaping 6-2.75, to fly to the top of the collegiate list that winter. "That's really memorable to me." Not much matched that moment for Teaberry-Lindsey until she made the Olympic team last summer. At the Trials, she first tied her old best of 6-3.5. If she stopped there, she would go home in fourth place. Officials raised the bar to 6-4.75. She missed twice, as did Karol Jenkins, her friend and adversary for the last team spot. On the third and last attempt, Jenkins missed, but she cleared.

Often referred to as America's national pastime, baseball made its debut as an official Olympic sport on July 26, 1992, in Barcelona, Spain. Before 1992, baseball had often been seen in various exhibition and demonstration games throughout modern Olympic history. In time, baseball became so popular that it was scheduled to become an official sport at the 1940 Olympic Games in Japan. However, due to World War II, the Games were canceled and baseball was overlooked as an official Olympic sport for the next 52 years. The Olympic Committee formally decided baseball would be an official sport in 1992.

Each baseball game has nine innings, with three "outs" per side in each inning. Three strikes equal an out and four "balls" (pitches outside the strike zone that are not swung at by the batter) result in a walk. Teams score a run when a batter safely reaches all four bases.

    Transfer Course Equivalencies
    Updated May 2004
Following is a list of current course equivalents between Concordia University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; credit at NU is stated in semester hours. If a specific UNL course equivalent has not been identified, other notations are used.
    • GNCR; course transfers as UNL general hours
    • SUBJ; course transfers as subject area hours (e.g., ENGLXXX, MATHXXX) not assigned to a specific course
    • NDAP; excess transfer course hours which are included in the equivalency and generally not degree-applicable
    • VCRD; vocational/skill development course: limited application to a UNL degree
    • HSCR; course is high school or remedial level; hours and course do not transfer
Contact your NU college to determine whether a course will be applicable to your intended major. While every effort is made to keep this list up to date, courses may be added or deleted at any time. Courses not listed may also be transferable and degree applicable. Equivalencies are date-specific and dependent upon when the course was taken. Equivalencies no longer in effect are not included in the list, but will be included in NU's evaluation of transfer credit if taken during the period the equivalency was in effect. In some cases, two or more transfer courses may be needed to achieve the equivalent of a UNL course. For an official evaluation of transfer credits, students are encouraged to apply for admission to NU, and submit complete high school and post-secondary transcripts. September 2002 Upon Further Review Coaching Resume "Irregularities" Force Closer Look, Locals Not Immune By John E. Sacco Relying on the honesty and integrity of a new coach or athletic administrator is not good enough anymore for universities and colleges across the nation. The embarrassment of finding out that a school's new coach or athletic director isn't what he or she said they were can be overwhelming and bewildering. Within days of being hired as Notre Dame's football coach, George O'Leary admitted he had lied on his resume. He never lettered in football at New Hampshire as he claimed, and he did not earn a master's degree from New York University. The former Georgia Tech coach was disgraced, as was the Fighting Irish's process in hiring him. Tyrone Willingham, who is perceived nationally to be an honorable man who ran a clean and quality program at Stanford was brought in to restore order. Had it not happened at Notre Dame, it is unlikely the matter would have received the national attention it did. But it brought the issue of simple clerical errors, half-truths and long-forgotten lies on resumes to light and within weeks inaccuracies were found in biographical information of coaches in Division I football and basketball across the country.

... Wheldon Gives Honda IRL Win on Home Track SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A nutritionist charged with distributing illegal drugs to pro athletes told federal agents he gave steroids to track stars Marion Jones and Tim Montgomery in exchange for endorsements, a newspaper reported Saturday night.
The story on the San Francisco Chronicle's Web site, quoting sources who requested anonymity, said Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative founder Victor Conte told the federal investigators that Jones and Montgomery received the performance-enhancing substances in exchange for endorsements of his nutritional supplement. Jones' attorney, Joseph Burton, issued a statement saying the Chronicle's story was wrong. "Victor Conte is either lying or the statement was involuntarily coerced. This is a character assassination of the worst kind," Burton said.

... Defense Wants Months to Prepare BALCO Case SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Lawyers were expected to battle in a hearing Friday over a move by Barry Bonds' personal trainer to retest suspected steroids taken from his property last fall.
A document filed by prosecutors last week claims federal agents seized vials of suspected steroids and human growth hormone, as well as more than 100 syringes, from Greg Anderson's apartment and car. His attorneys would like to do their own chemical analysis of the materials.
Among the items prosecutors said were seized included 10 vials labeled as Serostim, a synthetic human growth hormone, and a 30-tablet bottle of the steroid Andriol - with just one red pill inside. Also found was a vial labeled depo-testosterone and another labeled Enantat, both steroids.

There have not been a lot of names surfacing for next year but then KU really keeps it close to the chest on prospects. The summer camps will reveal a host of names to follow going into the fall with. Emeka Okafor has eliminated T-Tech while it appears that KU's interest has cooled. Apparently KU coaches have looked at Chris Charles , Seton Hall commitment but unclear whether they are actually serious. Wayne Simien's shoulder surgery went very well and he should be ready for fall. - Link to a great article on Michael Lee in Northwest All-star game in his bio. Aaron Miles was named the McDonald's All-American Player of the Year. Congrats to Aaron! - Apparently KU isn't done recruiting for this year. Under the 8/5 rule, they can sign 5 this year leaving 3 scholarships for next year. With one promised to Jeff Hawkins , that would leave two next year. So who is KU still interested in for this year's recruiting class? Apparently a PF/C prospect from the Houston area -
