University of Florida Success has followed Pat McMahon at every stop he’s made on the coaching carousel. From Old Dominion to Mississippi State to Florida he has built teams that can compete with anyone in the country. Even here at the "Be the Best You Are’’ clinics McMahon, who first appeared in 1982, has put together the most successful staff clinics we’ve ever had, including last year when he had the USA Baseball staff clinic. This year he will once again provide insights into how a total program is put together with the help of two of his assistants at Florida where he took over in 2002 and led the team to the NCAA tournament. He arrived there after serving four years as the head baseball coach at Mississippi State where he led the Bulldogs to a College World Series appearance in 1998, two consecutive NCAA Super Regional berths (2000 and 2001), four straight NCAA Regional berths and compiled a 164-88 overall record. In nine years as a head coach at both Mississippi State (1998-2001) and Old Dominion (1990-94), he has amassed a 353-174 record and .670 winning percentage. Last summer McMahon served as head coach of the USA Baseball National Team for the third time. Joe Kerrigan

SportsTech helps build strength, quickness
Brian Gomez Special for the Scottsdale Republic Apr. 14, 2004 12:00 AM SCOTTSDALE - Desert Mountain High School volleyball standout Tara Mueller feels "stronger and quicker on the court." Xavier basketball player Madison Hernandez has "gotten a lot more speed." And 27-year-old Phoenix sprinter Billy Urbina is "still improving." Maybe the training methods prescribed by Scottsdale-based SportsTech International really do work. In an industry overloaded with quick fixes and supposed guarantees, it's easy to be played for a fool. Legitimate workout programs are hard to find, and the ones that are reputable often cost much more than they're worth. FYI

A message from the Athletic Director John Scarpino
A new season, some new faces, and new opportunities await the men’s and women’s basketball teams this year. Coach Lisa Nuxol begins her second year at the helm of the Lady Raiders after an impressive first year 19-win season. The return of leading scorer Natalie Emmanuelli and leading rebounder Rosanna Davis will be complemented by the addition of Division I transfer Missy Guadagnino and several highly recruited freshmen. Add into the mix freshmen red shirts, Jennifer Anderson and Bryn Mosler, and this year is shaping up to be a very exciting and promising one. Coach Stan Cromartie, in his sixth year as head coach at SCC, has one returning player from last year’s 22-10 team. Sophomore guard Rushawn Johnson will be expected to lead the way on a squad with eleven freshmen. Young and talented, this year’s team is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead. Here at SCC, we take just as much pride in how the student-athletes perform in the classroom and in the community as we do on the court. Last year, 19 student-athletes were named to the Academic All-Conference Team and 14 student-athletes were named to the All-State Academic Team. In addition, each of our athletic teams performed numerous community service projects throughout the year.

Athletic Training Education Program
Gains CAAHEP Accreditation
October, 2000 Campbell University’s Athletic Training Program recently became one of only 130 programs in the nation to be accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP); a committee of the American Medical Association (AMA). The Campbell program received accreditation after an extensive two-year evaluation process. Athletic training is a rigorous academic program that works with the athletic department to provide an environment for athletic training students to receive clinical education and provide health care for the college athlete. According to CAAHEP, an athletic trainer is “a qualified allied health care professional educated and experienced in the management of health care problems associated with sports participation. They are members of the athletic health care team not only in colleges but in high schools, professional sports programs, and sports medicine clinics as well. They must cooperate with medical personnel, athletic administrators, coaches, and parents in the development and coordination of efficient and responsive health care delivery systems."
