Programming Guide Programming Guide Basic Programming Techniques This section discusses the following topics: Choosing an eGen Java Application Model There are four different types or models of Java applications that can be generated by the eGen utility. These models, which can be classified as either Mainframe to WebLogic Server or WebLogic Server to Mainframe, are described below. Mainframe to WebLogic Server (request originates on the mainframe and is serviced by WebLogic):
  • Server EJB. The server EJB is a Stateless Session EJB that provides a service to the mainframe.
WebLogic Server to Mainframe (request originates on the WebLogic client or server and is serviced by the mainframe):
  • Client Class. The client class is a stand-alone Java class that invokes mainframe services. This class may be built into your own EJB or utilized in some other way within your code.
  • Client EJB. The client EJB is a Stateless Session EJB that invokes mainframe services. It may be called by a servlet or other client programs. This is the normal model for building a production application with access to mainframe services. A servlet that invokes the EJB's methods may be added for testing or demonstration purposes.

D.1 What a Program Does
At the most basic level, the job of a program is to process some input data and produce results. The "program" in the figure can be either a compiled program (such as ls ), or it may be interpreted . In the latter case, a machine-executable program such as awk reads your program, and then uses the instructions in your program to process the data. When you write a program, it usually consists of the following, very basic set of steps:

Report Offensive Message For Removal Response Number 1 Name: Tugg Date: May 17, 2004 at 19:39:58 Pacific Subject: basic programming Reply: Well lets see: You cant program anything without variables and elementary data types (ie int, float, double...etc) To create something remotly useful but still basic you also need to learn about loops and logical operators... Of course you need to learn the syntax as well but there are tons of really good tutorials out there. Just go to google and type something like C Tutorials...bound to get 1000 hits at least :p. All in all just go to google and check out the tutorials right there...shouldnt take ya too long to get started...

To Guide Entry
INTRODUCTION
My unit is appropriate for use with remedial students who need extra practice with their basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. The computer programs will offer independent work which is challenging but rewarding. The programs are motivational to facilitate learning because of the new experiences they will offer the student. The students will realize through working with the programs that it is not as difficult as it appears. After a short period of time the initial anxiety should diminish and confidence will be built. For a student introduction I would explain that a computer is a machine that can do mathematical calculations for them. Also, I would discuss how the different programs they will be working with can help them learn. A few program terms they should become familiar with are “READ”, “PRINT”, “LET”, “DATA”, “GO TO”, and “END”. It would be a good idea to show the students pictures of the computer equipment before they were scheduled to visit the computer room. It is important to discuss why the students should be extremely careful with the equipment previous to the initial visit. One of the ideas I incorporated into the unit was to make programs where the students can type their own addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts into the terminal to receive or give an answer. Using these types of programs the students can work on individual problem facts. I want each student who will be using the computers to have his own record keeping chart to show the improvement in performance. When a student gives a correct response to a program the program will give encouragement by giving a positive response such as “VERY GOOD”. By individualizing the programs I hope to allow the students to progress at a comfortable rate.

The first part of the book introduces the reader to programming in the BASIC language. The second part of the book consists of 52 example problems, divided into 44 topics, concerning chemical problems. These problems progress in difficulty in terms of the chemical concepts, mathematical models, and programming operations involved. The reader can work the problems, then copy and run the programs, and compare the results. The given programs can be modified to suit the reader's needs, or new ones be written using the techniques presented in the text.

In this chapter, we will create two Windows applications using multicasting features. With one application it will be possible to chat with multiple systems, where everyone is both a sender and a receiver. The second application – in the form of a picture show – demonstrates how large data packets can be sent to multiple clients without using a large percentage of the network bandwidth.
In particular, we will:
  • Compare unicasts, broadcasts, and multicasts Examine the architecture of multicasting Implement multicast sockets with .NET Create a multicast chat application Create a multicast picture show application

99. History Of BASIC
A history of one of the most commonly used programming languages.
http://www.fys.ruu.nl/~bergmann/history.html
A brief history of the development of BASIC
Read here about the illustre past of our favourite language.... BASIC (standing for Beginner's All Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code) is a system developed at Dartmouth College in 1964 under the directory of J. Kemeny and T. Kurtz. It was implemented for the G.E.225. It was meant to be a very simple language to learn and also one that would be easy to translate. Furthermore, the designers wished it to be a stepping-stone for students to learn on of the more powerful languages such as FORTRAN or ALGOL. From " Programming languages: History and fundamentals " by Jean E. Sammet.
Daniel P. Hudson writes:
Bill Gates and Paul Allen had something different in mind. In the 1970's when M.I.T.S.'s Altair personal computer was being conceived Allen convinced Gates to help him develop a Basic Language for it. When M.I.T.S. answered with interest, The future of BASIC and the PC began. Gates was attending Harvard at the time and Allen was a Honeywell employee. Allen and Gates licensed their BASIC to M.I.T.S. for the Altair. This version took a total of 4K memory including the code and data used for a source code. Gates and Allen then ported Basic to other various platforms and moved back to their hometown of Seattle where they had attended grade school together. It was at this time that the Microsoft Corporation began it's reign in the PC world. By the late 70's, BASIC had been ported to platforms such as the Apple, Commodore and Atari computers and now it was time for Bill Gates's DOS which came with a Basic interpreter. The IBM-DOS version of this interpreter became known as BASICA, and at the time IBM was in major competition with clones so it was setup to require the BIOS distributed with IBM computers. The version distributed with MS-DOS was GW-BASIC and ran on any machine that could run DOS. There were no differences between BASIC-A and GW-BASIC which seems to make IBM's idea useless.
