LOCATION
Teterboro Airport is located in the Boroughs of Teterboro and Moonachie in Bergen County, New Jersey. It is twelve miles from midtown Manhattan, via the George Washington Bridge or Lincoln Tunnel. SIZE
Teterboro Airport consists of 827 acres: 90 acres for aircraft hangars, maintenance and office facilities, 408 acres for aeronautical use and 329 undeveloped acres. HISTORY
Teterboro is the oldest operating airport in the Port District. Walter C. Teter acquired the property in 1917. During World War 1, North American Aviation operated a manufacturing plant on the site. After the war, the airport served as a base of operations for Anthony Fokker, the Dutch aircraft designer. The first flight from the present airport site was made in 1919. During World War II, the airport was operated by the Army Air Force. The Port Authority purchased it on April 1, 1949 from Fred L. Wehran, a private owner.
Related History : Berry's Creek Robert Sullivan has published an interesting account of the Meadowlands in a book entitled: The Meadowlands: Wilderness Adventures at the Edge of a City ; 1998; Scribner. He is a very entertaining writer and the book is recommended.

Joining them were members of dissident religious groups, whom the proprietors in London sought out; foremost among them were Huguenot refugees from France. The colonists attempted to raise sugar, citrus, cotton, and tobacco; the proprietors also hoped the Huguenots would establish a trade in fine merchandise, such as silk. But these initiatives failed, and so the settlers had to support themselves as "the colony of a colony," supplying raw material to Barbados: lumber, cattle, hogs, deerskins, and Indian slaves. To acquire the latter, the colonists traded with an affiliate of the Iroquois nation, the Westos, who captured members of neighboring tribes in the backcountry. The Recruiting Officer Porgy and Bess Although Charleston was still small in comparison with the principal Northern cities, it was by far the biggest and most powerful city in the South. The 1800 census showed Philadelphia with a population of 69,403; Boston with 24,937; Charleston with 20,473; Richmond with 5,737; and Savannah with 5,166.

    BDA HISTORY
The first meeting of dentists took place informally in 1963 between Drs. Bentley Storey, Trevor Talma, Jimmy Smith, Eric Storey, Norman ‘Bunny’ Hope and Kenneth Nicholls.  Out of this meeting was born the Barbados Dental Association.  In the early years, meetings were held occasionally at the offices of the members.  From time to time, lectures by visiting professors were hosted in the homes of members.   Two of the most influential visitors during this initial period were Dr. Jerry Leatherman Of London (FDI) and Dr. Bob Harvey of McGill (Periodontosis). Through the initiative of Dr Norman Hope, the BDA hosted several mini conventions in the early 1970’s.  He attracted several prominent faculty members of Howard University, Washington DC.  From 1988 to the present day,  the scope of the Mid-Winter Convention has broadened to include lectures and delegates from the USA, Canada, Australia, England, Europe and the Caribbean. The BDA has always been at the forefront of increasing public awareness about dentistry and good oral health. The first annual Dental Health Week was held in 1975 and has now progressed to the current full “Dental Health Month”. Our public awareness programmes have also included various dental health screenings for the general public at various venues including the annual “Healthy Lifestyles Extravaganza”.

    Book Review
The Unending Frontier: An Environmental History of the Early Modern World. By John F. Richards. Berkeley: University of California Press, 2003. xiv + 682 pp. Maps, tables, bibliography, index. Cloth $75.00. John Richards has given us an ample and well-conceived world environmental history of the period between 1500 and 1800. As the title suggests, he emphasizes frontiers as an environmental theme of the early modern period, and the choice is apposite, since frontiers are the places where environmental changes were occurring most visibly. Richards does not believe that all those changes were environmentally damaging, although he is quite clear about the ones that were. For him, the story of the early modern world is in some important respects a story of progress, and he concludes with an optimistic look at the possibilities of the contemporary postfrontier world: "Wise and responsible management from local scale to the global scale is the only possible strategy" (p. 622). In this book, Richards argues that the salient patterns of the world were the expansion of Europeans across much of the rest of the globe and an evolutionary progress in human organization that was characteristic not only of Europe, but also of India and East Asia. In the opening chapter, he uses the Dutch Republic to illustrate the first pattern and Mughal, India, on which he is a recognized authority, for the second. A chapter discussing the state of our knowledge of climatic history follows; the Little Ice Age made its appearance during this time and its possible effects cannot be ignored.

    http://www.vob929.com/html/budget/2003/part2.cfm
INTRODUCTION Our nation and this Parliament have, at various intervals in our modern history, had to accept the need for, and to manage economic change of historic proportions. The turn of the twentieth century, for example, found the largely non-sectoral economy of the day mired in a great depression caused by unfavourable conditions for sugar cane production. Some of the responses that unfolded over the following fifty years to that economic crisis, are still with us today. It was during that period that the modern tourist industry had its origins. The period saw also a process of corporate consolidation within the plantocracy, giving rise to the creation of Plantations Company Ltd. in 1917. It saw the coming together of investors in the distributive sector to form the Barbados Shipping and Trading Company Ltd in 1920. The period also witnessed the formation of a new class of small businesses from among the then urban based poor white families, such as the Goddards, the Seales, the Dowdings and the Emtages who emerged as members of the merchant class. The period also witnessed the Great Migration of almost 45,000 black Barbadians to the Panama Canal project, and the remittance of substantial sums by which a new property owning class contributed to the diversification of the structure of our economy by changing the pattern of our land ownership, and by opening shops, corner stores and industrial establishments from which they plied their crafts and trades.

    Our History
    THE CARIBBEAN EPIDEMIOLOGY CENTRE (CAREC)
Formerly: The Trinidad Regional Virus Laboratory
and The Colonial Microbiological Research Institute The Caribbean Epidemiology Centre began operating on 1 January 1975 under the administrative management of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) at the request of the Caribbean Health Ministers' Conference held in the Bahamas in 1974.
    Background
In accord with the multilateral agreement, CAREC was established for a 10-year period beginning on 1 January 1975. The Governments signatory to the agreement also consented to make quota contributions providing approximately 60 per cent of CAREC's core budget, the remaining 40 per cent to come from PAHO/ WHO, and the Overseas Development Ministry of the U.K.
    THE TRINIDAD REGIONAL VIRUS LABORATORY
A field station was maintained by the Laboratory in Bush Bush Forest in the Nariva Swamp. At this station, studies were carried out continuously on the arboviruses of Trinidad. At various times, similar studies were conducted in other parts of the island. In 1967, field activities were concentrated at Turure Forest near Sangre Grande. Many viruses were recovered from this area. The laboratory also provided training to research workers and technicians who came from different parts of the world on Rockefeller Foundation or World Health Organization fellowships.
