B arbados has been one of the best Caribbean models of how to convert your economy to tourism. The build out began in the 1960s and for some has completed a cycle that other islands are only now beginning as they face severe drop off in banana exports. Barbados is a mature and flourishing democracy with excellent infrastructure and first-rate schools and transit. Bajans are as literate and articulate a people as you will find any where and they take great pride in their island nation of 265,000 people.
S ometimes called the most British Caribbean republic with a reputation as the home of some of the most talented pan-Caribbean business people the island is most distinctively West Indian. Afterall the rum shops are more important than tea time and the top bands in Barbados like Square One and Krosfayh tour year round to support the thriving West Indian Carnival culture spread which has so visibly spread to metro centers throughout Europe and the Western hemisphere.
B ridgetown, the capital, is a true City with many centuries of history The nightlife most mentioned is elsewhere at the famous tourist strip called the Saint Lawrence Gap which also host important Cropover Carnival events. The tourists in Barbados come from all over the world drawn by the agreeable climate, brilliant sandy beaches and broad tourist infrastructure which can accommodate most tastes and needs. There is surprisingly plenty to see and do beyond the typical beach getaway and this guide to the guides will get you there.

In 1986, the 50 year old Venezuelan-American Friendship Association, known by its' Spanish acronym "AVAA", endorsed and organized the first FINA rules Masters swimming championship and named it the : "Triple Corona de Natación Master Amistad", an event held three times a year in three different cities in Venezuela. The idea was to jump on the band wagon of the swimming trend for Masters and include other countries in the Americas and Caribbean, besides the U.S.A. and Canada. At that time there were no regional events offered and the Masters swimming was still in an infant stage. Native Latins, Caribbeans and foreigners who resided south of the Rio Grande were eligible to compete. 1st. Championship - Caracas, Venezuela - 1991

27. History Of CARICOM
THE history OF CARICOM. too, was the inauguration of the Caribbean regional TechnicalAssistance Centre (CARTAC) in November, based in barbados.
http://www.caricom.org/archives/caricom-history.htm
THE HISTORY OF CARICOM T he establishment of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) was the result of a 15-year effort to fulfil the hope of regional integration which was born with the establishment of the British West Indies Federation in 1958. It was a Federal Government drawn from 10 member islands. Although a plan for a Customs Union was drawn up, emphasis was not placed on economic aspects of Federation during the four years of its existence. Economically the Region remained as it had been for centuries and not even Free Trade was introduced between the Member Countries during this period. The West Indies Federation came to an end in 1962 but its end, in many ways must be regarded as the real beginning of what is now the Caribbean Community. T he end of the Federation meant the beginning of more serious efforts on the part of the political leaders in the Caribbean to strengthen the ties between the islands and mainland by providing for the continuance and strengthening of the areas of cooperation that existed during the Federation. To this end in mid-1962 a Common Services Conference was called to take decisions on these services, the major ones among them being the University of the West Indies (UWI), founded in 1948 and the Regional Shipping Services set up during the Federation to control the operation of the two ships donated in 1962 by the government of Canada - the Federal Palm and the Federal Maple. T he Caribbean Meteorological Service was established one year after, in 1963 and along with the UWI and the Regional Shipping Service, represented the heart of Caribbean cooperation directly after the end of the Federation.

BARBADOS CONSENSUS ON DEVELOPMENT OF LOCAL AND
REGIONAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SKILLS IN THE MEMBER
STATES OF THE CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY 1.  Introduction Last year at Nassau, we, the Heads of Government of the Member States of the Caribbean Community, reached an understanding on the policies and actions that our Governments would take to promote structural adjustment, accelerated development and regional integration among the CARICOM countries. We recognised then that an important part of the strategy for economic revitalisation centred around the building up and strengthening of local and regional management, skills, technology, entrepreneurship in all of the sectors of our mixed economies.  Such skills and such entrepreneurship are the ultimate foundation for the achievement of structural transformation and high levels of productive employment. All of our economies require vigorous, innovative entrepreneurship, working within a framework of soundly conceived and efficiently implemented Government policies, if they are to make the traditional lines of production - many of them uncompetitive by international standards - towards a diversified economic structure, the output of which can be produced competitively for national, regional and extra-regional markets. Higher levels of entrepreneurship and managerial and technical skills are needed at all scales of production - in small-scale enterprises (including individual and family units) no less than in medium-sized and large-scale enterprises.

    introduction
meetings eligibility ... the silver club BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CARIBBEAN SHIPPING ASSOCIATION By Michael S. L. Jarrett The need to establish an effective, broad-based Association to monitor, discuss and share information in support of the growth and development of shipping in the Caribbean was accepted in the 1960s when shipping interests realized that there was much to learn and emulate from the initiatives and strategies employed in neighbouring Caribbean territories to solve similar problems. Specifically, the revolutionary achievements by the Shipping Association of Jamaica (SAJ) in successfully negotiating with hostile unions for the mechanization of the Port of Kingston started a process where port interests across the Caribbean met to exchange ideas. Trinidad, Barbados and Bermuda were experiencing similar problems with their trade unions and delegations from the national shipping associations of these countries visited Jamaica within a short time of each other to discuss and learn from the achievements of the Shipping Association of Jamaica. These discussions forged a relationship between these national associations and in 1969 representatives from five national associations met in Port of Spain for an informal meeting to discuss labour contracts, labour practices and other problems affecting the shipping industry. The meeting was so useful, the group decided to meet again in six months.

    Barbados History
Barbados history shows that the Portuguese explorers probably landed on the island in the 16th century, but the first settlement was not established until 1627 and then by English colonists. It was made a Crown possession in 1663. The prosperity of the colony was gravely affected during the 18th century by war between the French and the British and by the American Revolution changing the Barbados history. Slavery on the island was abolished in 1833, leading to a substantial increase in agricultural production.
According to the Barbados history information, severe riots, resulting in bloodshed and loss of property, occurred in 1876, when the British government proposed a confederation of Barbados and the Windward Islands, about 160 km (about 100 mi) to the west. In the following decades the African and mixed majority slowly rose to political power, eventually outnumbering the white landholders in the legislature.
In 1937 poor economic conditions caused serious unrest, and a British Royal Commission was sent to Barbados. As a result, social and political reforms were gradually introduced, and in 1951 universal adult suffrage was achieved. Barbados joined the Federation of the West Indies (1958-1962), which also included Trinidad and Tobago.

    Jamaican Island History
    SPANISH GOVERNMENT BRITISH COMMONWEALTH PROFILE
BEFORE THE SPANIARDS occupied Jamaica in the early sixteenth century, the island was inhabited by the Arawak Indians, who called it Xaymaca, meaning "land of wood and springs." Lying on the trade routes between the Old and New Worlds, Jamaica served variously for centuries as a way station for Spanish galleons, a market for slaves and goods from many countries, and a prize for the Spaniards, the British, buccaneers, and entrepreneurs. By far the largest of the English-speaking islands in size and population, independent Jamaica has played a leading role within the Commonwealth Caribbean and has been active in international organizations. Jamaica's story is one of independence that began in the seventeenth century with the Maroons, runaway slaves who resisted the British colonizers by carrying out hit-and-run attacks from the interior. Their 7,000 descendants in the Cockpit Country have symbolized the fervent, sometimes belligerent, love of freedom that is ingrained in the Jamaican people as a result of both their British tutelage and their history of slavery. Independence came quietly, however, without a revolutionary struggle, apparently reflecting the lasting imprint of the British parliamentary legacy on Jamaican society. Despite its people's respect for the rule of law and the British Westminster system of government
