Geography of Bahrain
World Facts Index Bahrain Map of Bahrain Bahrain (from the Arabic word for "two seas") comprises an archipelago of thirty-three islands situated midway in the Persian Gulf close to the shore of the Arabian Peninsula. The islands are about twenty-four kilometers from the east coast of Saudi Arabia and twenty-eight kilometers from Qatar. The total area of the islands is about 691 square kilometers, or about four times the size of the District of Columbia. The largest island, accounting for 83 percent of the area, is Bahrain (also seen as Al Bahrayn), which has an extent of 572 square kilometers. From north to south, Bahrain is forty-eight kilometers long; at its widest point in the north, it is sixteen kilometers from east to west. Around most of Bahrain is a relatively shallow inlet of the Persian Gulf known as the Gulf of Bahrain. The seabed adjacent to Bahrain is rocky and, mainly off the northern part of the island, covered by extensive coral reefs. Most of the island is low-lying and barren desert. Outcroppings of limestone form low rolling hills, stubby cliffs, and shallow ravines. The limestone is covered by various densities of saline sand, capable of supporting only the hardiest desert vegetationchiefly thorn trees and scrub. There is a fertile strip five kilometers wide along the northern coast on which date, almond, fig, and pomegranate trees grow. The interior contains an escarpment that rises to 134 meters, the highest point on the island, to form Jabal ad Dukhan (Mountain of Smoke), named for the mists that often wreathe the summit. Most of the country's oil wells are situated in the vicinity of Jabal ad Dukhan.

    Sexual relationships in Southeast Asia

Southeast Asia is about more than Buddhist monks, tropical fruit, and white-sand beaches. It is also about the most beautiful women in the world, and excellent prospects for Western men to enter into meaningful sexual relationships. And I have to stress: I do not mean frequenting prostitutes. Of course, the wide range options for meaningful sexual relationships that exists in Southeast Asia is not obvious to the tourist or occasional business visitor. Like most of the Western men who live permanently in Southeast Asia, I myself have moved to this part of the world in search of paradise… not on palm-fringed beaches, but in the embrace of young beautiful women (and no, not the same one for years on end). I have now set up a new website, www.AsiaLove.org

The other islands of significance include Nabi Salah, which is northwest of Sitrah; Jiddah, to the north of Umm an Nasan; and a group of islands, the largest of which is Hawar, near the coast of Qatar. Nabi Salah contains several freshwater springs that are used to irrigate the island's extensive date palm groves. The rocky islet of Jiddah houses the state prison. Hawar and the fifteen small islands near it are the subject of a territorial dispute between Bahrain and Qatar. Hawar is nineteen kilometers long and about oneand onehalf kilometers wide. The other islands are uninhabited and are nesting sites for a variety of migratory birds.

    http://www.bahrain.gov.bh/English/bahrain/Geography.asp
    Position and Area
The State of Bahrain is an island group located off the central southern shores of the Arabian Gulf between latitude 25° 32" and 26° 20" North and longitude 050° 20" and 050° 50" East. The state comprises some 36 islands, with a total land area of about 706 square km. The largest of these is Bahrain Island where the capital city, Manama, is situated. Bahrain Island is 48 km long from north to south, and up to 16 km wide at its maximum point east to west. Bahrain Island accounts for nearly 85% of the total area of the State. The next largest elements are the southern archipelago called Hawar (50 square km), not far from the coast of Qatar, followed by the desert island of Umm Na'san (19 square km), the populous Muharraq Island (18 square km) connected by causeways to Bahrain, and finally Sitra (10 square km), a mainly industrial island also connected to Bahrain by causeways. The remaining small islands, islets and coral reefs combine to make up the rest of the land mass.
    Geography
Bahrain is low lying. Typically the limestone bedrock slopes very gently towards the roughly central peak of Jebel Dukhan (meaning "Mountain of Smoke" as on hot humid days it becomes surrounded by a misty haze). Its top is only 137 metres above sea level, but seems higher due to the flatness of the surrounding plain.
