What is the average temperature in The Islands Of The Bahamas? Should I avoid visiting The Islands Of The Bahamas during the hurricane season?
http://www.bahamatravelnet.com/maps/geography.html
Changes in L'attitudes What is the average temperature in The Islands Of The Bahamas?
For the latest information on weather in The Islands Of The Bahamas please consult the Bahamas Department of Meteorology's website at http://flamingo.bahamas.net.bs/weather. The Islands Of The Bahamas have a temperate climate ranging from 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit with high humidity in the summer months to 70-80 degrees in the winter. Nighttime temperatures are generally cooler by 5-7 degrees. In the more northerly islands, winter temperatures are approximately 5 degrees lower than the southern islands. Sea surface temperatures vary between 74 degrees in February and 84 degrees in August. When is the rainy season?
The Islands Of The Bahamas experience rain year-round; however, the months of May through October constitute the rainy season. The northern islands normally receive twice as much rain as the southern islands with heavy squalls or thundershowers which clear quickly. Should I avoid visiting The Islands Of The Bahamas during the hurricane season?
The months of June to November constitute the hurricane season. The weather does influence travel decisions and often, inaccurate reporting of information on hurricanes results in needless cancellations by U.S. travellers. Many Bahamas hoteliers have instituted a Hurricane Hotel Policy for vacationers which states that visitors who cancel a Bahamas vacation during a hurricane will receive an immediate refund with no penalties. If caught on-island during a hurricane, they would be extended the lowest possible rate and all possible courtesies.

Some commonly asked questions and answers about the islands, the climate, weather and the geography of the Bahamas.
The Abaco Islands consist of one main island and several cays, or islets - some of which are deserted. It is also the home of Treasure Cay, recognized as one of the top 10 beaches in the world. With so many secluded places to drop anchor, it is no wonder that it is a favorite with sailors. It is also the boat building capital of The Islands Of The Bahamas.
Andros, the largest island in The Bahamas, boasts the third-largest coral reef in the world, making it ideal for scuba diving and snorkelling. It is the bonefishing capital of the world and is famous for producing Androsia, a handmade batik fabric.
The Bimini Islands include North Bimini, South Bimini and a bunch of tiny cays sprinkling southward. Only 50 miles from Miami, these islands are known as the game fishing capital of the world. They are also the former haunt of Ernest Hemingway, who used them as the setting for his book, Islands in the Stream.

INTRODUCTION
Background: Arawak Indians inhabited the islands when Christopher Columbus first set foot in the New World on San Salvador in 1492. British settlement of the islands began in 1647; the islands became a colony in 1783. Since attaining independence from the UK in 1973, The Bahamas have prospered through tourism and international banking and investment management. Because of its geography, the country is a major transshipment point for illegal drugs, particularly shipments to the US, and its territory is used for smuggling illegal migrants into the US. The Bahamas is an archipelagic state lying about 50 miles off the coast of Florida extending over 750 miles south-easterly along the coast of Cuba to within 60 miles of Hispaniola. Eleuthera
The Bahamas derives its name from the Spanish words meaning shallow seas. The waters surrounding The Bahamas are virtually pollution free and are the clearest and most collorful in the world and the islands of The Bahamas boast the spectacular beaches ranging form coral pink to ivory white. Despite its name and large areas of shallow sand beds and reefs, The Bahamas also has some of the deepest waters in the world in an area called "The Tongue of the Ocean" which is located just east of Andros island. These waters are over one mile deep and are utilised for oceanographic research by scientists of the Atlantic Undersea Testing and Evaluation Centre, a joint US/UK research base. The Great Barrier Reef, the third largest in the world, flanks the Tongue of the Ocean. The Gulf Stream, commonly referred to as the "Great Ocean River", borders The Bahamas on the west.
