Quotes About Spirituality

Bahá'í Faith: The history of the Bahá'í Faith in India started with the inception of the Faith in Iran when Bahá’u’lláh appointed one of the Indian believers as the 'Letter of Living' in 1844-45, the first year of His Ministry. Since then, India is spiritually connected with the Bahá’i Faith. He dispatched one of the distinguished Bahá'í teachers, Jamal Effendi, to teach the Cause of God in the years 1874-75. Jamal Effendi travelled to various parts of India and was successful in attracting many learned people to the Faith. In the beginning of this century, in the early twenties, a few Local Spiritual Assemblies were formed in the primary Indian cities, and by 1944, India had 24 Spiritual Assemblies. At the present, in the 26 Indian States, the Indian Bahá'í Community has 24 State Baha'í Councils, the state level Bahá'í administrative institutions, managing the affairs of over 1450 Local Spiritual Assemblies (locally elected Bahá'i Institutions), and over 2.3 million believers spread over 31829 localities in all parts of the country. India was the 6th country to have the Baha'i Faith introduced to it. The Faith was introduced to the following countires in order: Iraq, Persia, Burma, Caucasus, Egypt, India, Lebanon, Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Turkey and Turkistan.

as as part of my anthropolgy subject, I'm doing a research on the bahai
faith, focusing on the bahai believers. I'm turning this question to all
the bahai believers in hope that you will cooperate with me, but before
that I just want to say what a great privilege it was to be introduce to
the amazing bahai faith (I'm christian) and to it's great cause.
the main question of my research is :what made people live their former
religion and join the bahai faith, and in another words what do you think
attracts people to this faith.

These wonderful men in women spoke in their native languages. Each eloquently described their process of discovery, how they had prayed, fasted and meditated prior to and during the Great Council Fire. All of them declared that Baha'u'llah Message was a True One sent by the Creator. They embraced the message and declared there was no conflict in their ancient Spiritual Teaching and the Baha'i Faith. It was also interesting to note that they said they would not formally become Baha'i because they feared their followers would become Baha'i simply because they had and not because of their own personal investigation of Truth. I am from the Tlingit tribe in Alaska and hope this helps you as you develop your paper. Feel free to respond to this at roberta@olypen.com With deep respect. Roberta L.Charles

Bahai Faith BRIEF OUTLINE OF KEY BELIEFS:
    • In the unity of mankind - that all people matter, and that the world should be run as one country for the benefit of everyone. That it is the differences between people which make life interesting, and these differences should be cherished, not ignored. That there has only ever been one religion, the religion of God. God sent His Messengers to different places at different times so that everyone in the world could hear about Him. That there is only one God, though people may call Him by different names. God is something we can never really understand: we can only learn about Him through His creation and His Messengers. That Baha'u'llah is the latest in a long line of Messengers sent by God to tell us how we should live and behave. That Christ, Muhammad, Buddha, Moses and Krishna were all Messengers from God. That all these Messengers said basically the same thing - that we should love God and one another.

Baha'i Faith series Fasting Within the Baha'i Faith 1999 by Lloyd Mandansky What is fasting? One definition is that it is the voluntary abstention from nourishment. While this is true on the physical level, when fasting is done in connection with spiritual or religious principles it goes far beyond abstaining from food and drink. Most cultures and religions have practiced fasting, although in different forms. Sometimes it is just abstention from certain foods, food only, or food and drink. Fasting can also include abstention from sexual acts and even smoking. The duration of the fast can be for different periods of time. Within the Baha'i Faith, Baha'u'llah established the guidelines in the Kitab-I-Aqdas. Along with obligatory prayer, it is one of the greatest obligations of a Baha'i. The duration of the fast is from sunrise to sunset during the Baha'i month of `Ala', or between March 2nd through March 20th. It is the complete abstaining from both food and drink and also includes smoking (although the ban on smoking is only binding on Baha'is of Middle Eastern background at this time). The fast is binding on all Baha'is who have reached the age of maturity, which is fifteen years of age. Observing the fast is an individual obligation. No Baha'i administrative institution enforces it, as it is between each Baha'i and God.

The Orthodox Bahá'í Faith is a movement which started within the Baha'i Faith, though now independent of it. Total membership is estimated at up to a few thousand. Although the beliefs of the main division and the Orthodox Bahá'ís are for the most part identical, they differ on the issue of ongoing leadership. Between the years 1957 and 1960, the Bahá'í Faith underwent a severe test of succession. The majority of Bahá'ís, under the Hands of the Cause of God (a group of Bahá'ís that included Charles Mason Remey, and that was appointed by Shoghi Effendi according to the provisions of `Abdu’l-Bahá's Will and Testament) followed the Hands' corporate leadership of the Faith. The remainder followed Remey as the new individual leader of the faith forming the Orthodox Bahá'í Faith.
    Nature of the Dispute
During the time immediately following the unexpected death of Shoghi Effendi , the Guardian of the Baha'i Faith, Charles Mason Remey attempted to change the plan of his fellow Hands who had determined to elect the Universal House of Justice mentioned by both Baha'u'llah and Abdul-Baha . The majority Baha'i position is that Remey signed the unanimous statement of the Hands that no document appointing a successor Guardian had been found, and that no such appointment was possible.

Baha'i Faith Below is an article written in 1990 for a home schooling newsletter. I posted the article on this website in February of 2000. I've made some changes to the article (March 2001) based on email from adherents to Baha'i Faith. I have no problem correcting items of fact. Of course, I want to be factually correct. I have seen much in Evangelical Christian literature and "folklore" that is just plain untrue when it comes to describing non- Christian groups. And I want to be fair in properly representing any particular group I am critiquing. But on other issues that are more subjective, I can't just let the adherents construct the debate. For example, if a Baha'i adherent says they do believe in the deity of Jesus, I have to examine that independently and decide if what they mean by that is really what I understand the Bible to be saying. I don't think that the Baha'i Faith concept of the divinity of Jesus is anywhere near the Biblical concept of the absolute uniqueness of Jesus being God in human flesh. I have found it interesting that, in a time when most are being indoctrinated to believe that there are many paths to God, Baha'i Faith teaches there is one path. But according to the Bible, I consider it to be a false path, a false gospel. Baha'i Faith public relations emphasizes the unity of all the world's religions, but then you realize that it's only under the umbrella of
