The Bahá'í Faith is the second most widespread of the world's independent religions in terms of the number of countries in which it is represented (second due to its absence from the Vatican City), established in 236 countries and territories throughout the world. Although the beliefs of the main division and the Orthodox Bahá'ís are for the most part identical, they differ on the issue of ongoing leadership. Between the years 1957 and 1960, the Bahá'í Faith underwent a severe test of succession. The majority of Bahá'ís, under the Hands of the Cause of God (a group of Bahá'ís that included Charles Mason Remey, and that was appointed by Shoghi Effendi according to the provisions of `Abdu’l-Bahá's Will and Testament) followed the Hands' corporate leadership of the Faith. The remainder followed Remey as the new individual leader of the group forming the Orthodox Bahá'í Faith.

Word: Word Starts with Ends with Definition The is a monotheistic Monotheism is the belief in a single, universal, all-encompassing deity. Various forms of monotheism exist, including:
  • Theism, a term that usually refers to the belief in a 'personal' god, that is, a single god with a distinctive personality, rather than just a divine force.
  • Deism is a form of monotheism in which it is believed that one god exists, however, a Deist comes to his belief through reason, and rejects any religious revelations such as the Bible, the Tanakh, or Qu'ran.
  • Pantheism holds that the Universe is God. Depending on how this is understood, such a view may be tantamount to atheism, deism or theism.
  • Panentheism is a form of theism that holds that God contains, but is not identical to, the Universe. This is also the view of Process theology.

Religion also functions in many human communities as a means by which the origin of the world around them, and such mysteries as life, death, and their meaning are explained. EARLY HISTORY
In May of 1844, a young Persian by the name of Siyyid `Ali Muhammad declared that He was the promised Qa'im of Shi'ah Islam. He assumed the title of The Bab (Gate). The Bab's mission was twofold: He first announced to the people of His native land His own station as an independent Messenger and He also prepared the way for the coming of another Manifestation (messenger) of God, a Prophet who would announce His station soon after The Bab. The next six years marked a dramatic increase in both the number of persons who became followers of the Bab and in the energy spent by the Shi'ah clergy of Iran to stamp out this new religion. Eventually 20,000 Babis would be put to death for their beliefs. The Bab Himself was imprisoned and was executed in July of 1850.

There shineth nothing else in Mine heart except the unfading light of the Morn of Divine guidance, and out of My mouth proceedeth naught but the essence of truth, which the Lord your God hath revealed. Follow not, therefore, your earthly desires, and violate not the Covenant of God, nor break your pledge to Him. With firm determination, with the whole affection of your heart, and with the full force of your words, turn ye unto Him, and walk not in the ways of the foolish. The world is but a show, vain and empty, a mere nothing, bearing the semblance of reality. Set not your affections upon it. Bahai: What is the Bahai faith?
The Bahai faith originated in Iran (Persia) in 1844 when a Moslem, Mirza 'Ali Muhammed, announced that he was the forerunner of the World Teacher, who would appear to unite mankind and bring a new era of peace. He assumed the title of "Bab" (the Persian word for "Gate"). He was prosecuted and executed by the Moslems and the Persian Government for forming a new Moslem sect. One of his disciples, Mirza Husayn 'Ali, when an exile in Baghdad, proclaimed himself the prophesied World Teacher and took the name Baha'u'llah which means "The Glory of God". The name Bahai faith is derived from that title. The world headquarters of the Bahai faith is in Haifa, Israel. If we condense the teachings of this faith, we find that they revolve around three basic principles: 1. The oneness of God.
2. The oneness of religion.
3. The oneness of mankind. The "Bab" taught that he replaced Muhammed as God's prophet and that he formed a new universal religion based on a new book, Kitab-Akdas. This "new religion" means according to the Baha'u'llah: 1. The independent search after truth, unhindered by superstition or tradition.

Bahai Faith - Where Religion Worships Unity
Religion divides, spirituality units, is a well known aphorism. Here is a religion with a difference: the Bahai faith. The core of the faith is unity.
Often religion has met its defeat at the very hands of those who are its staunch believers. The Bahai faith is devised to do just the opposite. Founded a century and a half ago, the essential message of this faith is unity: all religions are one, all people are one.
My introduction to the Bahai faith came when I went to the Bahai temple in New Delhi. I was told it was beautiful and when I looked down from the aircraft I was bewitched to see a white, romantically lit lotus standing in an otherwise dark setting. The first thing I did the next morning after I arrived in the Indian capital was visit this structure.
I looked for more information on the choice of a lotus as the architectural design and its implementation. I found that the structure of the House of Worship is composed of three ranks of nine petals; each springing from a podium which elevates the building above the surrounding plain. The first two ranks curve inwards, embracing the inner dome; the third layer curves outward to form canopies over the nine entrance. All Bahai palces of worship have nine faces. The number nine has a special significance in the faith.
The petals, constructed of reinforced white concrete cast in place, are clad in white marble panels. The double layered interior dome, modeled on the inner most portion of the lotus, is comprised of 54 ribs with concrete shells between. The central hall is ringed

The Bahai Faith: The Bahai faith is not a sect of Islam but is an offshoot of the Babi religion, a group in Persia that broke away from the Shia branch of Islam in 1844. The leader of the Babis was Mirza Ali Mohammad of Shiraz, who proclaimed himself the Bab (the gate) and the Imam-Mahdi (rightly guided leader) from the line of Muhammad peace be upon him. He was executed by the Persian authorities in 1850. In 1863 Mirza Hoseyn Ali Nuri, a prominent member of the Babi group, declared himself to be the person whom GOD will make manifest, whom the Bab had foretold. He also took the name Bahaullah (Glory of GOD) and formed a new religion, the Bahai faith. Bahaullah was banished from Persia and was eventually imprisoned in Akka-Palestine. There he wrote his main work, al-kitab al-aqdas (The Most Holy Book), and developed the doctrine of the Bahai faith into a comprehensive teaching. At Bahaullah's death, the leadership of the fledgling religion passed to his son Abdulbaha, then to his great grandson, Shoghi Effendi Rabbani, and in 1963 to an elected administrative body known as the Universal House of Justice. Bahais believe that GOD has revealed Himself to man by means of Divine Manifestations, including Abraham, Moses, Krishna, Zoroaster, the Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad, the Bab, and Bahaullah. They believe that these messengers were provided to guide mankind through an evolutionary process in which the appearance of the Bab initiated a new age for mankind. The Bahais say that to date is message is the fullest revelation of GOD's will and that it is the primary GOD given instrument that will make world unity possible.

The following is a brief description of the Bahai faith along with some
important questions.
About 150 years ago, there appeared a man in Persia (Iran) by the name of
Baha'U'llah. He is alleged by the Bahai's to be the World Savior for all
religious faiths. A close examination of his available writings shows a man
who was heavily influenced by Judaism, Christianity and especially Islam.
Much of what he had to say, and much of what the Bahai's claim make him
unique, are simply a repetition of the words of Muhammad.
I am not speaking for or against this new faith. I am just holding it up to the light to see what I can see. Shortly, you will see that one of the principles of the Bahai faith is the independent investigation of truth. And so consider this short essay my personal investigation of the truth along with what I consider to be critical questions of this new faith. I have no doubt that the Bahai faith will continue to attract adherents and so the faith provides a unique perspective into the evolution of religious institutions. Had we been present 150 years after the foundation of

Speaking as someone who was asked to write a number of articles for the
encyclopedia project and did, I would have been happy to post something
about its revival on Talisman if anyone had told me it had been revived.
The first I heard about it was reading the article in TAB yesterday.
Obviously, for there to be an article in TAB the revival happened some
time ago but there does not seem to have been any hurry to inform those who spent the time and energy to write the articles. Perhaps before suggesting we authors are keeping stuff to ourselves, a simple enquiry as to whether we know anything about what is going on would be an idea? Or an enquiry to Rob as to his not having given the news on Talisman? Subject: To Future Generations
Dear friends,
As this is a very dynamic Faith and we learn and evolve
from generation to generation ... I would like to make
a plea to future generations of Baha'is as they take
on the many tasks of service to the Faith, both as members
of Institutions and as individuals, on something I feel very passionately about: Please do not ever, ever, ever wherever possible mix travel arrangements for individual Bahai's with the work of Institutions of the Faith. Think about it logically ... why is there a need to For future conferences etc, just assume individual Bahai's either have enough frequent flier points or are friendly enough with commercial travel agents to figure out their own travel arrangements. Also, never, ever allow corrupt useless business people to hid behind the name "Baha'i", and warn the believers about them.
