U.S. JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, LEADING TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATION LAUNCH WEB SITE TO TEACH CHILDREN RESPONSIBLE COMPUTER USE Offers Parents, Educators Back-To-School Tools to Teach Kids
    About Online Ethics
    Arlington, VA, September 5, 2000
    – As America’s children go back to school, The Cybercitizen Partnership, a joint effort by the U.S. Department of Justice and the Information Technology Association of America Foundation (ITAA), the nation’s leading technology association, today launched a new Web site for parents and educators designed to teach kids the right ways to use the Internet. The new Web site - www.cybercitizenship.org - represents a major national effort to provide teachers, parents and their children with a new learning tool – responsible computer use. The Web site is initially focused on providing support for parents, and will expand to assist teachers and appeal to kids. “Young people are growing up in a society where the Internet is central to everything from commerce to recreation,” said U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno. “Unfortunately, criminal activity exists online just as it does on the streets. As children learn basic rules about right and wrong in the off-line world, they must also learn about acceptable behavior on the Internet.”

Why work in Florida?
Florida is the vacation destination of millions of people per year and you could choose to live here! Discover endless beaches, perpetual sun and surf, and commit your coats and sweaters to permanent storage. Nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the beautiful St. Johns River, just a 90-minute drive from Orlando, St. Augustine is one of the most diverse vacation sites in Florida.
St. Augustine, founded in 1565, is America's oldest permanently settled European city. A combination of old world charm, national monuments, and more than 20 unique attractions, St. Augustine is an architectural masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance and Colonial Revival styles. Lanes of art galleries, antique shops and collectibles; it is the perfect setting for a romantic dinner and live entertainment in one of the more than 150 fine restaurants, bistros and night clubs.
Just north of St. Augustine is Ponte Vedra Beach, the golf and tennis home of the PGA TOUR and the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) International Headquarters. Is it any wonder why the World Golf Hall of Fame and Village selected this area for its new facility? It reflects the hundreds of golf courses available year round in Florida.

BrainPOP adds Test Preparation movie to Web site, gears up for back to school. BrainPOP ( www.BrainPOP.com ), the leading producer of educational animated Math, English, Science, Health, and Technology movies for preteens, is launching a Test Preparation movie just in time for back-to-school. With the newly added emphasis on standardized testing in schools this year, BrainPOP's Test Preparation movie is sure to help 8 to 14-year-old students by offering different study tips and techniques. And, since BrainPOP's 300 movies are developed according to National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Standards, National Council of Teachers of English standards, and National Science Education Standards, BrainPOP serves as a valuable aid to help teachers improve test scores. In "Test Preparation," BrainPOP characters Tim and Moby talk about how to plan a study schedule and avoid distractions while studying, the value of organizing and rewriting sloppy notes and reviewing old tests, ways to get motivated, and the helpfulness of explaining subject matter to friends to test your knowledge. In related comic strips, Cassie, Rita and Gary reinforce the importance of keeping well rested and energized by sleeping and eating right, and ex-lab rat Bob talks about how to choose the right time to study. Increased testing isn't the only issue kids are dealing with this back-to-school season. BrainPOP's

INTRODUCTION Medical education at Brown is characterized by its breadth, flexibility, and opportunities for personal enrichment and advanced scholarship. Brown Medical School awards approximately 80 Doctor of Medicine degrees each year. Most of the basic sciences are taught on the University campus while most clinical teaching is hospital-based or community-based. Clinical department chairpersons are based either on campus or in one of the affiliated teaching hospitals. Brown is different from most medical schools in that the majority of openings for the first year class are reserved for students who are enrolled in the eight year continuum leading to both the Bachelor's degree and the M.D. degree. This continuum is called the Program in Liberal Medical Education or PLME . The remaining places in the class are reserved for students applying to the M.D./Ph.D. Program

Grand Rapids, Mich. You can hear it coming. Aisles rumble with carts of merchandise. A usually ignored corner of the store becomes a hub of frustrated parents, oversized shopping carts, and children defending the purchase of as many gel pens as possible. A notebook will be cause enough for a disheveled mother to squeeze through the crowd and attack merchandise. And over the hum of parents' sighs and the mass of children clutching the folders they must have, the cash register will start to beep. Back-to-school shopping is on its way. Retailers everywhere have probably been counting down the days until its arrival ever since kids finished counting down the days until summer. Advertisers have been putting new spins on the overdone concept of back-to-school shopping as well, framing their ad campaigns in slogans like "Back to cool!" Everyone knows that pencils and paper have everything to do with cool-according to the media and marketing, that is. Kids are buying it (pun intended). They are buying the messages and thus buying the merchandise. According to a 2002 National Retail Federation (NRF) Survey, "Kids [are] flexing their spending muscles more than ever" and are actually pushing their parents out of the way in check-out lines. NRF concluded that "nearly half (49.1 percent) of households with 'tweens and teens - age 13 to 17 years old - say their kids will use their own money on back-to-school purchases," spending an average of $147.
