MAY 04 BBJ Approved for North Atlantic CPDLC Trial Boeing Business Jet operators are being invited to join an airborne trial of controller-pilot datalink communications (CPDLC) over the North Atlantic as part of an evaluation by airlines of future air navigation system (FANS) concepts. According to Mike Hewitt, chief pilot for Boeing Business Jets, operators interested in participating in the program can install additional required avionics and seek approval from the FANS central monitoring agency, a joint FAA and ICAO group. So far the monitoring agency has approved three BBJ operators for the trial, in addition to Boeing, which has installed the CPDLC gear in its own BBJ. FAA Extends Boeing ATM Contract Lufthansa Rolls Out Connexion Service on Munich to Los Angeles Route Called FlyNet, the Lufthansa service is the first of its kind to offer a fee-based broadband Internet service to airline passengers. Lufthansa charges a flat fee of $29.95 for the wireless Internet service on flights longer than six hours, $19.95 on shorter flights. Per-minute access is also available for $9.95 for the first 30 minutes and $0.25 for each additional minute. Lufthansa plans to expand the service to several more routes by the summer of 2006.
