Starvation
by Harvest McCampbell
1: Starvation it was discovered that i was not being fed trapped in a crib too weak to escape court orders later we moved house and she began to teach me tiny child that i was she began to teach me which weeds you can eat which seeds you can keep how to recognize the roots how to find what it is you need i never looked at it this way before but it was her insurance against my starvation 2: I Forgot it is hard to believe how forgetful i have been i forgot all about being hungry all about being rescued i forgot all the reasons grandmother had to teach me i forgot so much but i remembered what i was taught before my son could walk he was already learning what weeds he could eat even though i did not remember hunger my son was not going to starve 3: No Regrets my life has been shaped by this grandmother wove the dark pain into something beautiful and enduring she reached back to old old stories she gathered food plants in her hands fed me acorns and corn and i survived and thrived my life has been shaped by this and i have no regrets 4: I Am Blessed not everyone has been loved like i was loved not everyone is capable of looking when it would be easier to turn away not everyone is capable of taking hold of that dark pain and weaving something strong and enduring she taught me this healing is about pulling the circle out of the chaos and for this i am blessed 5: The Specter of Our Starvation it was this the starving child in her arms it was this that called the old songs from her bones that called the old stories from her heart that called the memory

I do this with patience, friendliness, encouragement, and empathy. I remember what it was like to be a beginner. Dancing may not be scary for everyone, but those who do find it scary can be safe with me. For intermediate students, I try to balance fun, clearly explained technique, dancing, and support. I also enjoy teaching new intermediate students who are beginning to explore technique and other subtleties in a dance. I especially like teaching couples preparing for their wedding dance, because I enjoy how in love they are and because preparing for their first dance is exciting. My favorite dances to teach are swing, salsa, and Argentine tango. My other interests are sailing, poetry, music, and art.
Dances I teach (and level)
American Style Smooth (Bronze)
American Style Rhythm (Bronze)
Argentine Tango (Beginning and Intermediate)
Dance training and experience
  • Training since 2002 at the Metronome Ballroom in Silver American Smooth and Rhythm, and in Club dances (East Coast Swing, Lindy Hop, salsa and Argentine Tango), Brazilian Samba, Hip Hop, and Argentine Tango.

An overview of the History course
The structure of the History course is a modular one. As in all departments of the University, over a three-year degree students will need to accumulate 360 credits (480 for a four-year degree), and will normally take 120 credits in each year, 40 credits in each term.
The First-year Programme
(a) Term One: In the first-term, single-subject History students take two modules, Historical perspectives (20 credits) and a Historical Topic (b) Term Two: In the Spring Term the students take two 20 credit Period General Courses . Each Period General Course offers a general exploration of major themes and issues in the history of the period in question, and is jointly taught by a group of tutors, through an integrated programme of lectures, discussion groups and tutorials. Students attend two lectures and one 1-hour discussion group every week for 7 weeks, and also write two procedural essays in the course of the term, for each of which they will receive a half-hour tutorial. The courses are assessed by an open examination in week 10.
