History of Austria
This is the history of Austria . See also the history of Europe and history of present-day nations and states Much of present-day Austria was once the Roman territory of Noricum . Under the Franks , parts of modern-day Austria were considered first part of Bavaria and later the Eastern Frankish Kingdom and the Ostmark, or Eastern March. The Marches were overseen by a comes or dux as appointed by the king. The most normal translation of these offices is count or duke, but these titles conveyed very different meanings in the Early Middle Ages, and the Latin terminology is preferable to any modern translation. In German-speaking countries, the title was eventually regularized to Margrave (Ger. Markgraf ). (ie "Mark count"). In the Privilegium Minus elevated Austria to the status of a duchy ruled by the Babenberg family. The first record showing Austria is appr. where it is written down as Ostaricci. Following the extinction of the Babenbergs in the 13th century, Austria came briefly under the rule of the Czech King Ottokar II . Ottokar was defeated and killed by German King Rudolf I of Habsburg , who took Austria and gave it to his sons in . Austria was ruled by the Habsburgs for the next 640 years. In the 14th and 15th centuries, the Habsburgs began to accumulate other provinces in the vicinity of Austria proper, which was a small Duchy along the Danube -

Authorities warned the risk of more avalanches was extremely high after about 1 1/2 feet of new snow fell in 24 hours. Tyrol provincial governor Wendelin Weingartner said at least 27 bodies had been recovered in the tourist resort of Galtuer , which was devastated by an avalanche Tuesday. Five people died in nearby Valzur from an avalanche Wednesday.

Austrian School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
The Austrian School is a school of economic thought which rejects opposing economists' reliance on methods used in natural science for the study of human action and relationships through logic (or praxeology edit
History
The school was founded with the publication of Carl Menger 's Principles of Economics in . This book helped start the Neoclassical Revolution in economics in the late nineteenth century. Austrian economics is currently closely associated with advocacy of radical laissez faire views. However, earlier Austrian economists were more cautious compared to later economists such as Ludwig von Mises , with Eugen von Böhm-Bawerk saying that he feared that unbridled free competition would lead to "anarchism in production and consumption." However the Austrian School, especially through the works of Friedrich Hayek , would be influential in the revival of free market thought in the 1980s. The school originated in Vienna and owes its name to members of the Historical School of economics who during the Methodenstreit , where the Austrians defended the reliance that classical economists placed on logic over observation. Their Prussian opponents derisively named them the "Austrian School" to emphasize a departure from mainstream German thought and to suggest a provincial approach.

Austria History and Culture
History Settled in prehistoric times, the central European land that is now Austria was overrun in pre-Roman times by various tribes, including the Celts. Thousands of years ago the Celts were the original settlers, mining the area for iron. Romans followed, and then other tribes such as, Huns, Ostrogoths, Lombards, Turks and Bavarians. After the fall of the Roman Empire, of which Austria was part, the area was invaded by Bavarians and Slavic Avars. Charlemagne conquered the area in C.E. 788 and encouraged colonization and Christianity. In 1252, Ottokar, King of Bohemia, gained possession, only to lose the territories to Rudolf of Hapsburg in 1278. Thereafter, until World War I, Austria's history was largely that of its ruling house, the Hapsburgs. Austria was home of the Habsburgs, the continent's most influential and long-lasting dynasty.

Egon Schiele
born: Tulln on the Danube, Austria; 12 June 1890
died: Vienna, Austria; 31 October 1918 of influenza As a student at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts (1907-09), Schiele was strongly influenced by the Jugendstil movement, the name for the German Art Nouveau. He met Gustav Klimt, leader of the Vienna Sezession , and the linearity and subtlety of Schiele's work owe much to Klimt's style. Schiele, however, emphasized expression over decoration, heightening the emotive power of line with a feverish tension. He eventually concentrated on the human figure, and his candid, agitated treatment of erotic and lesbian themes caused a sensation. In 1909 he helped found the New Art Group. From 1911 on he exhibited throughout Europe, and a special room was devoted to his work at a 1918 Sezessionist exhibit in Vienna.
