D0366: South Australian leisure activities survey, 1982-1983
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR (s) Recreation and Sport, Department of (SA) DATA COLLECTOR Australian Bureau of Statistics (SA) ABSTRACT This study contains the results of four surveys of the South Australian community conducted to establish what leisure activities they had undertaken recently. The surveys were conducted quarterly over a twelve month period to account for seasonal variations, with the same house- holds approached each quarter. There are four data files, one for each quarter. Questions were asked about sports played, both organised and not; sports not played and why; watching sport; other recreational activities done away from home; social activities outside the home; social and recreational activities done at home; use of public and private leisure facilities; camping and caravanning; fishing; and boating.     New Director for Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group Limited Board
    Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group Limited (ALH) today announced its intention to appoint Ms Sally Pitkin to the Board of Directors, subject to licensing authority approvals. Ms Pitkin, a solicitor, is currently Special Counsel to Clayton Utz in Queensland and holds a range of Board appointments with private and public companies. Ms Pitkin was for 10 years a partner with Clayton Utz's banking and finance practice and is currently a Director of Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited and Energex Limited. Ms Pitkin has expertise and experience in advising companies on corporate governance issues and developed a specialist practice in corporatisation and privatisation. In 1999, she was the Australian Winner of the Private Sector Category of the Telstra Business Women's Awards. The Chairman of ALH, Mr Allan McDonald, welcomed Ms Pitkin's appointment to the ALH Board.

    COMMISSION ON LEISURE MANAGEMENT
    The Commission on Leisure Management was established in the mid 1980's and has been active in all the World Leisure Congresses. Its activities have centred around organising the congress activities, running management training sessions and undertaking learning visits to a range of facilities in the congress cities. The goals and organization of th commission are spelled out in its constitution. At the 2000 World Leisurer Congress in Bilbao, Spain, our Keynote Speaker was George Walker, Head of the Sports Division, Council of Europe who spoke on "The challenges facing managers in modern sport, a European perspective." The full text of his paper is available as a PDF file. The keynote presentation of the Management Commission at the 1998 World Leisure Congress in Sao Paulo, Brazil was given by Prof. Theo Beckers of Tilbury University, The Netherlands, and entitled "Human Capital in Leisure: Promoting Empowerment and Managing Cultural Diversity."
